The joys of re-reading years after the fact.

Don't know if other writers do this, but there's a simple joy in just reading stuff I've written years ago. In an effort to perhaps restart a story line, no I'm not going to say which, I re-read several chapters to try and get a good handle on the various character voices and quite happily finding myself enjoying the writing of my younger self. My neurosis promptly informed me that I can't write to this level anymore, but for once chose to ignore it.

Whenever I read my old work, I just end up hating my younger self and his acceptance of his terrible quality.

It's cool that you can do that! Especially since the way I hear it from most writers and artists is that they wince at how bad everything they did back in the day looks to them now. Actually being able to enjoy your own work is too rare.

I re-read books I haven't read in ages to see if they invoke the same feelings as when I first read them. sometimes. It would be good to see you back because even if you don't think your writing is as good i can wholly guarantee it will still be amazing
I've done it sometimes. Although when I read the really earliest stuff I wrote it makes me cringe and I can't figure out why people fav'd it.

I gotta say I'm somewhere between what everyone else said. On one hand, my humor still holds up (at least in my eyes), but on the other hand, the actual writing in my old stuff makes me want to set it ablaze.
