I don't consider myself a Krystal fan anymore
7 years ago
I'm just letting you guys know this, I recently decided to stop calling myself a Krystal fan, and I will most likely never draw her again, so if you originally (or recently) watched me for the Krystal art, don't expect any more from me. From here on out, I'll consider myself predominately a Pokémon artist
No, I'm not going to delete all my Krystal submissions or remove all my Krystal favorites, they'll remain, I'm just not going to add or create any more
If you wish to know why I chose to do this, feel free to ask, just expect a lot of words

FA+

So if anything, I'm doing this to help my motivation and to make me stop hating people so much, which is actually helping since I'm beginning to enjoy the art of some artists that I otherwise would've avoided
Krystal is not a "dead character", she is appearing in Super Smash Bros Ultimate as an assist trophy due to her popularity on the Smash Ballot. She may not be a fighter but its the next best thing, also her assist trophy looks very powerful. There is also a rumor suggesting she was considered to be a fighter but was cut due to time constraints (understandable since they brought back every past fighter) Another thing to note is on the SSB website they market Krystal as the first assist trophy on the page https://www.smashbros.com/en_US/ite.....istfigure.html This is great acknowledgement for her and let me tell you they wouldn't have made her a prominent AT if they didn't have future plans for her. Many popular assist trophies/bosses/npcs have been upgraded to fighter status (Chrom, Ridley, Dark Samus, Little Mac with Shadow, Isabelle and Skull Kid rumored) and it gives me hope she might be too someday!
Star Fox Zero was called a reimagining of 64 therefore it didn't make sense for Krystal to appear yet, the director of the game said he would love to bring her into the sequel if he gets to make it. SFZ unfortunately tanked and the franchise is in flux but you really can't blame Starfox's decline on Krystal but Nintendo and the devs. Another interesting thing is that planet Sauria is mentioned in a anime short for SFZ, which may possibly tease some Sauria in the future. Star Fox Command was a horribly written mess that wrote Krystal completely out of character from her past 2 games, it failed to build off of anything that was great in Assault and remains one of the most disliked games in the franchise. Starlink is a new game by ubisoft that isnt a starfox game but on the swtich will feature the Fox Mccloud playable in a new world that Fox and the Starfox team somehow drifted to. Judging from the designs, i'd say this takes place after SFZ and a spinoff wouldn't be the right way to reintroduce her anyways. If Starlink succeeds its possible a new starfox game would reintroduce her in this rebooted world, given her popularity on the smash ballot it's almost a given.
StarFox Adventures and Assault are 2 of my favorite childhood games, I know Adventures isn't a typical SF game but it's gameplay is interesting, the world and characters are unique, the soundtrack and level design is beautiful and it's better than most Zelda games imo and i love the zelda series. It was original going to star Krystal and her brother Saber but then Nintendo decided to shoehorn StarFox in and while it was still a great game, it would have probably been a classic beloved game had it released as Dinosaur Planet, people would have seen the true beauty of it and Krystal wouldn't have been shafted, she was by far the most interesting part of Adventures and a lot of people weren't happy her game was taken from her. Assault was a better "Starfox" game, the campaign was a great ride with decent replayability (although paths would have made it god-tier) and the multiplayer was very fun to play with friends. Krystal again was the most interesting character imo, her telepathy and woman's touch was a fresh addition to the team. I feel like had they built off of Assault's gameplay and refined it they could have made the perfect sequel.
I've always felt really bad for Krystal as a character, Nintendo has pushed her aside in games like Adventures, Command and Brawl when many of the players of those games love the character and want to see more of her. I feel like Smash Ultimate is the beginning of a rebirth for her, the fact that a character who hasn't appeared in a game in 10 years made it in as the most prominently shown new assist trophy proves they have not abandoned her. Now there are haters of Krystal but none of them have any real merit, they either hated Adventures and blame the character even though it's not her fault Starfox was shoehorned in or the anti-furries who strictly hate her for being a very attractive furry character.
Another reason i think she will come back is that Star Fox desperately needs female characters, in starfox zero/64 Katt is the only female character and her role is very minor and in only in 1 path. Sure characters like Miyu and Fay were created but they are far more obscure and come from a game only people who have the SNES classic have played. Krystal is StarFox's girl and i guarantee you if SF gets another game and adds a female character it will be a reimagined version of her.
I love Krystal, she is a beautiful, interesting character who is not only my favorite Starfox character but my favorite furry character in fictional media.
Smash Bros Ultimate... No, I don't see her inclusion as an assist trophy as a good thing, it's only a step up from just not being mentioned, and a bad decision on Sakurais part, a case of "either go all the way or don't go at all". She was about as wanted as K. Rool and Ridley, so it would've made sense if all three of them made it in, but no, only Krystal was the one that was left behind, condemned to the purgatory known as Assist Trophy, meanwhile Ridley is so big that he's apparently suseptable to combos that shouldn't be possible. And then there's the Adventures outfit that Sakurai decided to make her wear, the outfit that her fandom has used into oblivion that has effectively become a meme, there was no reason for Sakurai to make her wear that outfit besides fanservice, and it would've made a lot more sense if she was wearing something similar to what Fox and Falco wear. And this is a big asterisk, but apparently, Sakurai only did this stuff because he was tired of his fans complaining about it (which ultimately backfired because people are still complaining)
Krystal (And by extention, Starfox) doesn't need any more reboots, retcons, or reimaginings, what is needed is for Nintendo to finish what they started instead of leaving the most developed storyline with that disaster known as Command. If a large dam is about to collapse, you're supposed to try to repair it to prevent a tragedy from happening, not build a new one somewhere else because you can't be bothered to fix the old one
Starfox Assault is (or was) my favorite Starfox game because the characters weren't walking memes (also because it was the game that got me in the fandom in the first place), I then played Adventures second, and Command third. And from what I believe, Dinosaur Planet becoming Starfox Adventures was probably what prevented Starfox from dying at 64, or at least kept it from being known as an on-rails arcade shooter for home consoles
Again, I don't see Ultimate as a new beginning, I see it as Nintendo's attempt to make their fans shut up for a little while, and at this point, between Nintendo, a majority of the Krystal fandom, and her haters, it's hard to tell who's treating her better. And as much as I believe more good female characters are needed in the series, I don't think Nintendo cares about that since they seem to care more about their gimmicks that they believe will be successful. And I do believe Krystal is a good character with a lot of potential, it's just that pretty much everyone either don't realize it, or intentionally cast it aside for their own greed, I believe that she deserves more than to become an Easter egg, a reference, or an advanced assist item, and me drawing "in-character porn" doesn't seem like it would be helping her case
Now, I guess you can see this as one reason as to why I chose to stop calling myself a fan of Krystal, I don't want to be the kind of person who gets up-in-arms over opinions that oppose my own, and Krystal is one of the very few things I get so uppity about. I want people to enjoy and think what they want without me getting in the way, except thats all I ever really do when it comes to stuff involving Krystal, as I just showed. But since this has effectively become an ingrown habit of mine, I don't expect to change for a long time
I don't think Krystal is a whore and while i like the lewds for her, i know its all non-canon. Yeah she's sexy but it's not the main reason i find her interesting, i think a mystical female fox from a dead world who wields a staff is pretty unique and fascinating. She could have used some backstories but i blame Nintendo for that, not her.
I choose to look at the positives and dream that she comes back to the Starfox franchise because i know it's where she belongs. Also Smash: my favorite franchise. i have dreamed of her being playable in it since i played adventures 15 years ago. I'm not giving up on her ever and i'm not letting anyone tell me otherwise. She will return, you'll see.
I'm sorry you don't agree with me and i'm sorry the fanbase ruined your spark for the character, i'm not mad at you or anything because i know you're not someone hating Krystal for stupid trivial reasoning like "because she's furbait" but i was just trying to defend a character i have a large attachment to.
What you believe usually doesn't matter when the majority seems to worship blatant lies with such force that they dedicate an entire month to celebrating that lie. All the big names when it comes to Krystal art don't see her as that "mystical blue fox from a dead planet", but as "blueboobs mcfurrydream", and that sorta kinda really gets in the way of those who actually support the actual character
Believe me, I had those same dreams way back in the day when I was looking forward to Smash 4, but as soon as the full roster was revealed, everything started going downhill, and it has effectively reached rock bottom at this point, and the walls are too steep for me to climb out
I know that you were just trying to defend Krystal, and I respect that completely, I'm glad there are still people out there who show true support, I'm just wanting you to know my views on the matter, and to be aware that I won't be there to lend support
Ultimately, it's your decision, and you shouldn't be bent out of shape over a fictional character, no matter who it is. For me, she's not a dead character, she's not the reason for any 'collapse' of the SF series, and she's not a sex icon. The fandom sexualizes plenty of characters like her, absolutely, but it's all just interpretation and fantasy, nothing more. Enjoy Krystal for what you like about her, who she is, and what she represents. That's all. Don't get frustrated by the fetishistic art of her, because they don't change how she really is portrayed. Don't cling to her so strongly, however; believe me, I've made that mistake, but don't abandon her either.
I suppose it's just a long way of saying not to give up. But if you feel it's necessary to have that pessimistic outlook on a series you once loved for no discernible reason than the fandom pisses you off and Nintendo 'hates her', than that's your choice.
That being said, I fully agree with you on other matters, specifically how Nintendo's been rehashing SF64 for too long, and they're sticking to the forms of the characters that were indeed walking memes. It's one of the reasons I don't care for SF64, to be honest, even if it can be fun.
The fact that I even did get overly emotional over a fictional character is a red flag that I should've heeded a long time ago, because my time in the fandom has rarely given me happy moments, it's mostly been me being bitter and cutting ties with people I used to have a connection with
I'll still be here when it comes to drawing art and being social, and while it may be very, very slow, I'll still be active
And you're not a hypocrite, because you don't try to market the way you draw Krystal as true.
But yeah, I also believe that I'll have more freedom with what I draw if I didn't put so much time in one character, and hopefully, more motivation to draw
I stopped calling myself a Krystal fan because, among things I've already covered, I just don't think it's worth it in the long run
It doesn't change that it's really sad to read. You totally deserve to love and draw the characters you love for your reasons.
You'll always have made my favorite Krystal art though.
I always end up going back to the last Xmas one :3
If destiny is made so , of course I'll go with your decision. You got the talent to make greatness here. You could draw a rock and make her sexy. (Only if her tits untouched and -just kidding , c'mon you missed my boobs opinion haha)
But if time makes you wanna try again... Well no one would disagree.
Peace , mate.
And I'm pretty sure my skills aren't that good, I still appreciate the meaning behind it, so thank you for that
Also , milk.
So many franchises other than Pokemons. I still have the request in mind I've made to you back in the note , so yes , there is great ladies everywhere!
I'll stop the spam now , hehe
And ye, there are so many different franchises and series' I'm able to try drawing, yet so little motivation to actually draw them. And to tell the truth, I think I forgot what idea you told me so you'll have to remind me, sorry about that
The day you'll see a cute character from somewhere else , inspiring enough ? I wanna know lol.
Oh I see. Kinda used to that on FA , to tell the truth :P It was a Tailsko.
Until next time you draw untouched breasts.
... Kidding , later ! And especially , try to take care.
Oh, okay, thats what it was. While I can't guarantee it, I may end up drawing her some time
And thanks, the same to you
Mind you I could read everything below, but lets get real i'm just lazy. Just note im not demanding you should still make more but i'm just curious to a reason.
To put it simply, I made this decision for a couple reasons, I've more-or-less lost interest in Krystal over time, I'm sick and tired of hating so many people for no legitimate and justifiable reason, and I want to work to try and improve my general motivation instead of worrying so much about a fictional character. To put it simply, I just want to stop being such a cynical and bitter person and getting set off over such small things
And to be honest, calling off my "fanship", for lack of a better word, has actually helped me a little, because I'm not as angry at the fandom as I was before, and I find myself enjoying the art of some artists that I otherwise would've disliked in the past. It'll take a little while before I'll be able to get over it completely, but it's better late than never
