money would certainly help the problem here, ut it sounds like while being cordial with a family member handling the lease they are neglecting the responsibilities on their part as a leasing party. and depending on the state this is more than a small no no. and quite illegal. its scary, shitty and hard to do. but i would suggest you sit down with them. tell them your complaints and then tell them if they do not make good on those responsibilities at property leaser. then you will consider A) seeking some sort of legal consultation on the matter. heres a free resource to help you along that route. its a site that helps outline and give advice for such problems. but before using them i suggest first and foremost contact your local housing or building agency and file a report if theyve REALLY ignored multiple requests to fix major structural problems as it IS one of your rights as a rentor to live in a structurally sound unit.
