Nintendo Switch Online Anger? (rant)
The paid service for Switch Online starts tonight. And lots of Nintendo fans are ranting and raving about how their free online service is going away and now they have to pay to play Switch online. So here's my response...
I'm sure quite a few on Switch, like me, also have Xbox Live Gold membership. So how is Switch Online so bad but Xbox Gold isn't? I mean, Switch Online is literally 1/3 the price of Gold (Gold is $59.99/year, Switch Online is $19.99/year). So they buy a $300 Switch, games which can cost up to $60, tons of DLC, but a $20 online subscription fee (which could help Nintendo make online stuff BETTER I might add) is going too far?
Would I prefer it stay free? Of course. Am I mad it isn't? No. It just means they can use the money from it to improve online functions and add new ones. As stated above, Switch Online is 1/3 the price of Xbox Gold, and like Gold, has other benefits. Such as access to classic NES games for free, free Cloud Saves, and more.
So people, for crying out loud, stop CRYING OUT LOUD about it! It's not a lot of money and could benefit in the long run.

s network works. For example Playstation and Xbox have servers to run so you can connect to others to play online, hence why they need the money. But nintendo, the system connects players via your own internet connection. So in other words, Nintendo is charging you to use your own internet to play games online, and not to pay for servers. Yes, it is not much, but still that seems a lil messed up.
and this last bit is just my own personal opinion, but I am a nintendo fanboy for Pokemon and Kirby, but even I can't see nintendo as a 100% nice company because they've charged us $60 for friggin cardboard(aka the labo) soo if they'll charge us for cardboard I wouldnt put it past them to charge us an extra$20 just because they feel like making as much if not more than their 3 main competitors.
Again though this is just my 2 cents, I got nothing to complain about yet, I don't have a Switch but I'll get one at launch of the new pokemon game
Maybe you're right, but I guess we'll see how it goes.
See everyone? You can discuss opposing views with someone without having to lash out at them and start an angry argument. XD
Many of Nintendo's games like Mario Kart 8 are peer-to-peer and don't have dedicated servers, which Nintendo can easily afford because they're a multi-billion dollar company. We are paying money to just connect to other people's internet.
Cloud Saves are for some reason optional for developers, and with Splatoon and Pokémon not being supported, that just adds insult to injury. Their stance on this is because they want to prevent cheating via changing files, but there are preventative ways to go about this, such as saving your online rank, well... Online. Your rating in Splatoon for example is locally stored. Not to mention, Nintendo has not so far told us about any sort of grace period for our cloud saves should we be unable/forget to renew our subscription, so in essence, if you've got things in life that are more important and you don't renew your service the day it's due, all of your hard work is tossed out the window.
The NES games are just being milked at this point. It's perfect if you love the classics, but emulators like Dolphin and even Virtual Console on previous hardware like Wii U and 3DS already HAD the games Nintendo is once again giving us when the Switch is more than capable of handling N64 and GC games. We've already seen enough releases of Ice Climbers and the OG Mario Bros across multiple consoles.
The Nintendo Online Chat App is something that should have already been integrated with the system itself. A good majority of the app itself is made obsolete by Discord and Skype.
As for special offers... Well, Nintendo just wasn't prepared at all. They had a year and a half to figure out at the very least what those special offers contained.
All in all, we just don't want to enable this behavior, and we don't want to spend money on something that should have already been improved upon since the two delays Nintendo has put out. I'd much rather pay $3 for an excellent tomato than pay 5¢ for a rotten tomato.
In the meantime, we just gotta speak with our wallets so Nintendo gets the idea.
