Cats don't exist in Zootopia since humans aren't present. As a result, it would be a fictional concept for them.

For the song, I don't think it would necessarily work if only because as of yet there's no evidence of any domestic anthros in Zootopia (unless you want to count Clawhauser, since cheetahs are technically descended from ancient domestic hunting cats)

Granted house cats are only semi-domesticated, and there are wild cats that are pretty close in morphology to domestic cats.

actually, they found evidence of cheetahs in prehistoric european turfs. back in the days before the last ice age, and during it, a lot of now-african wildlife was spread across eurasia.

it's also the other way around, they tamed wild cheetahs to aid in hunting game.

I expect that a more fully realized police force would be depicted if it actually served a plot purpose, ala a bomb threat that required a SWAT response or a detective crossing paths with a police investigation. As it is the police force you actually see in Zootopia was only shown to the extent that the characters had a role to play in the various actions shown or to "fill out the canvas" in larger scenes at the bullpen or graduation ceremony. Those other elements probably exist, they just didn't have a reason to be depicted in the story... and it's interesting to think about what the sequel story might be that necessitated those different elements making an appearance.

"Everybody Wants to Be a Cat" would be fun, indeed! Maybe a little too on-the-nose but enjoyable nonetheless.

So long as little hints or clues are left that such things exist, I agree that they don't need to be properly depicted unless it's plot relevant.

I can already imagine that a sequel's in the works.

I would rather see aquatic creatures, some sense that land mammals aren't the only ones that evolved. ^^

Petty thievery would make a good opening for a raccoon character to show up! I'm surprised now that there wasn't a raccoon in the first....

from what I heard its because they wanted to focus on preds and prey and a raccoon is a bit between the 2 as a scavenger species. Hopefully there wil be some in the sequel since theyre among my fave species.

maybe they also could use the dark ideas and gritty places from the first script that got put away for being too gloomy.


I also want to see them spoof Judas Priest's "Painkiller" video clip and music. something for the end of the end credits, maybe...

Hmm, I saw something on IMDB, but I don't think it is legit. I swore I heard something official, but all I can find is some speculation. So, I guess I will take it back for now.

Now that would be interesting. In the original Zootopia, it seemed most "Human" vices such as smoking or drinking were very toned down, but the use of "Narcotics" was hinted at. Still, the need to gather and socialize is inherent in most animals, so a location like a bar, music and dance hall would most likely have a place in that world.

I'm kind of intrigued with the comments above concerning "Dark Zootopia."

I don't think I ever scanned it in, but after I watched Zootopia with  Swiftcutter and  ScienceFox we were drawing goofy stuff and we imagined a sequel could go in the Lethal Weapon direction where Nick turns into a crazy guy akin to Mel Gibson's character and I ended up drawing Nick pointing a gun at his head with a maniacal expression.

What about reptiles, birds, amphibians and so on? :O

Well, they did say that Zootopia has 12 unique ecosystems of which we only see a handful during the course of the movie. I can see those other critters taking up resident space in the areas we haven't been introduced to yet.

Plus it would hammer home some of messages of the movie about not judging 'the other' and racism, since reptiles and insects especially are often seen as ugly and usually used in designs of villains or dangerous creatures :O compared to the more softer and more accepted mammals, despite some being utter jerks :P Especially dolphins.

I want to see them branch out and make it about a completely different cast of characters than the first one. They gave themselves a rare opportunity by naming the movie after the city instead of any particular character. Nick and Judy would still make an appearance—they're cops, after all; it's only natural that if anything serious enough to rival the events of the first movie is going down, they'd be on it—but only maybe in one scene.

EDIT: It makes a ton of sense from a business perspective, too, since more new characters (with plenty of screen time) means more merch to sell.

There's a ton of possibilities open to explore and I hope the production crew really takes advantage of it. I'm doubtful that they'd have the guts to make a sequel that completely bypasses the leading characters from the first movie however, -that's part of the pre-built marketing that comes with making a sequel in the first place; selling audiences more of what they already love. It's sadly limiting... agents 001, 002, 003, and so on never get their day in the sun, it's only 007 who gets to have 50+ years of movies made. :(

I remember when the song "Love" from Disney's Robin Hood was on in the background in a scene in "Fantastic Mr. Fox".

My friends who I was watching the movie with had no idea why I was suddenly so excited and saying "Holy shit!" repeatedly.

The thought was brought on after watching Lady and the Tramp and remembering that Peggy Lee was a popular singer in her own right back in the 1940's. Her song "He's a Tramp" is an entertaining performance whether in the context of dogs singing in the pound or just a vamp working the lounge / bar. It would work!
