I hate dentists as well, last time I needed a tooth pulled the BASTARD didn't even wait for the Novocaine to kick in, he "I'm just going to check..." YANK

he got out of the room while I was blind with pain, but I made sure to punch and kick holes in the wall more than doubling the bill I had to pay IN ADVANCE. and most of his "customers" walked out never to return.

Second bit. I had to be sedated for my vasectomy and circumcision 3-4 years ago. stuck a drip in my hand, wheeled me into surgery, put the mask on. and I was halfway out the front door in a wheelchair before I regained mental faculties enough to know where I was and why.

GOOD STUFF. the second to last dentist I went to had Nitrous Oxide and they worked on me for 10 HOURS while I was lucid. telling jokes when they were not actively in my mouth, flirting with the nurses.
it was AWESOME. more dental care like that and my mouth would have a LOT more of my teeth in it.

I do NOT like pain. Pain Hurts.

so my fears about sedation are lessened somewhat by my experience with it. sure sure they give you this long speech about how low of a chance anything happening is, but they Have to tell you it CAN happen because liability and all. personally, I suggest you not sweat it. either you will wake up and be fine (99.9999999999% chance) or you won't wake up at all in which case you'll never know.

if you are not fine then I'll owe you a beer, hows that? (I'd offer you a beer either way)

i've had the same thing done to me a few times.. I find that if you relax beforehand the sedative takes effect better. Try and relax and trust the oral surgeon.... if you don't trust them than find someone else who you can trust. All the best!

I know exactly how you feel about dentists. It wasn't until I found one who talked me through every little thing he was doing that I began to feel more comfortable. Hope everything goes well with your visit.

Had four removed. All sideways, all impacted. I had novocaine and nitrous, so it wasn't too bad!

I had three and an undecided pocket of tissue removed over a decade ago, fully under anesthesia for the first time, went just fine and I wasn't as dopey afterwards as the people on America's Funniest Videos either. Healing was annoying, having to chew carefully so food didn't get into my healing gums and not being able to have any hard/crunchy things, but it went smoothly and I can't tell where the incisions were now. You should be just fine, though if you wanted to be sure, you could request a trial run of being sedated to make sure you don't react in an odd way to it. No idea if that's a thing they would/could do, but it might be worth asking. Whatever you do, I hope it goes smoothly and with a minimum of discomfort!

Ah, I was afraid of that. Hope it goes well for you tomorrow! Talking to them before hand might help, they've almost certainly had people that needed help calming down, so they should know some ways to lower your stress.

I was most afraid of being put under than anything else when I had mine out - it was my first experience too. I stayed up all night and made sure I was already falling asleep as I was being prepared. I don't know if that helped or not, but I was out like a light as soon as he hit the gas.

If it make you feel better, I had four that were impacted and had to all be removed at once under sedation. I sat in the chair, got two injections and thought "I wonder how long this" and then I was waking up in recovery, the operation completely and successfully done. There was some pain after as expected but the meds managed it and it only lasted a few days.
