Furries are Toxic ~ We can't do shit about it
7 years ago
General
So I have read Jasonafex' journal after watching Kothorix video which can be seen on his YouTube channel.
Apparently, 2018 has been an especially bad year in the furry community. In fact it has been the worst for me as well in the almost 12 years I am here now.
My personal drama started early on with the user BlazeFox2, who had the audacity of commissioning me and asking for my discord id, only to keep bothering me with his toxic ideas for future projects that can actually work and are very promising and interesting. Now we talk on a regular basis and it's really bad, sometimes not even furry related!
The next really toxic person I encountered was McParty, a guy whom I've helped with his patreon concept to make an extra bug to pay his rent. He introduced me to a really awful person who likes comics as well and who also made some very nice fan-art for me which he kindly asked me to keep private.
We almost never talk about the furry community itself and have great fun discussing arts and comic ideas.
The next EXTREMELY toxic individual I had the displeasure of encountering was Vdisco. I talked to him about how much I love “The Pirates Fate” and he made it possible for me to show the creators of the game my fan-drawings. Thanks to that, I had to suffer through a number of very nice conversations with them. I hope you understand what that did to my motivation...
Then I got in contact with Vally, who forced herself into my life by helping me fleshing out my characters in written form to finally bring some momentum into this part of my work. I still hate her for that. Plus she is another person I have plenty of conversations with that do not fall into furry stuff.
And last for now, but certainly not least is the user NaughtyMorg. They actually dared talking to me about how to create comics after I asked them, can you believe it?
I can't go on like this. The furry community has been nothing but pain and high blood pressure for me this year.
Thank you for reading, I love you all :P

hatelove you too!*hugs them all*
You must teach me yours ways of seeing into the future!
I've never run into any people like that myself, most are quite nice and level-headed.
Well, it all seemed so overly dramatic and dark that I felt like countering on my own small scale ^^
Real talk though. Ive made some life long friends in this fandom
...wait, it wasn't even the first one? xD
Good people
Even the idiots give me stories to tell!
What I always found to be very questionable about the furry fandom was this weird statement by some furries themselves that it draws in and "intoxicates" people with weird fetishes like beatiality for example.
However none of the comments and statements I stumbled upon ever mentioned that, besides the OCs, none of these fetishes and sexual deviations originates from the furry fandom itself.
Therefore I think the best we can do is not promoting things that can lead to problems, beastiality being one of the more prominent examples I guess.
My biggest issue though is that many people completely negate the existence of self-responsibility. IF one is not capable of dealing with imgagery or even people of X/Y genre, then they shouldn't consume it or engage with it. Period. When you gotta run to the bathroom all night because some food wasn't THAT good for you, what do you do? Consume more of it and then complain it has to be banned because it's bad? No, you just stop eating it and pick something else.
Thank you for sharing your thoughts on this :)
Furries: y'all hear something?
You do kick ass art and you should not let your motevation get ruined by a few bad patato's
Sorry about that
*then realizes that this is with sarcasm in mind, saying stuff that’s ‘bad’ but is actually good*
Ahhh, you had me there for a bit.
X3
Also someone claiming to be a role model who clearly isn't one is amusing and sad.
I had to smile because of this, thank you for bringing some positivity into my life! :->
In other news, these last years I've met so many people in the community who helped me feel better and not a useless being that has no place in society and has lost all creativity... those toxic monsters...
There is indeed a big number of very nice people in this fandom and I refuse to believe that this spirit of welcoming everyone the way he or she is is dead. I really do not think that's the case.
A little anecdote: Many times during my streams I openly said that I'm extremely annoyed by the flood of mlp images everywhere and even those who like it are perfectly fine with it, because I don't tell them that they are shit and should stop liking it, they can do whatever they feel like...
Mainly I think the live-and-let-live mentality is something the vast majority here understand and subscribes to.
Sorry. I'm rambling again. Lol Bad habit.
Those monsters.
Ive had nothing but lovely experiences in the community, lots of people wiling to offer assistance, aid, support financial or emotional or even both. Company, ect. There will always be people that are toxic in any community.. But giving the name of who was spoken here, it's likly just an egomaniacs ramblings that should look in mirror before casting the first stone to the community.
In fact, no sane individual joins this community to contanstly bash stuff and people they don't like. No one is obligated to engage with haters and content they do not enjoy.
Like my favourite example I make no secret about: I really don't like the still ongoing flood of MLP stuff, but I'd never tell these people to stop liking it. They can do whatever the fuck they feel like, even if it is literally the 50k "th" picture of princess celestia they have seen a million times before ~ I don't mind, I just let it pass by and focus on the stuff I'm interested in, no problem x3
But as someone else put it, "Good news doesn't sell." It's easier to get reactions from people marking the evils that wander through in minority then to pick out the good things.
Or back to my gaming reference, we always hear how video games make people violent and such. Yet the news always seem to ignore the many man many marathons motions, groups that use gaming to help raise funds for groups to help the world. Some one gets shot, "VIDEO GAMES ARE TO BLAME!", video game marathon over a weekend raises half a million dollars for a charity, "RADIO SILENCE."
Naturally, I understand the frustration of gamers and side with them 100%.
What I also do not quite understand is this general statement of "community XY is toxic because reasons".
As if it is any fandom's fault that toxic people show up. What would be if the fandom of X wouldn't even exist in the first place? Would that mean the toxic guys wouldn't exist either? Hell no, these people would still be there and always have been there before.
Guess I'll go swallow a big jar of cofee
Still, I think this can seriously colour your perception of the community to a degree when the negative stuff seems to gain much more mass than it actually has for the majority of people being acive here.
What Jason said, what Kothorix said ~ I experienced NONE of these issues this year which makes it look to me as if they come from a parallel dimension where things REALLY went downhill. Sorry guys, but what you're talking about seriously contradicts my every-day experience in this fandom.
Also, regarding other fandoms, I recently heard that Steven Universe fans bullied a member of the production team out of her job and some Star Wars fans send death threats to the film crew. Let that sink in...
Thank you for sharing this! ^^
...
I'm glad I could make you a little bit happier
...
I haven't written this to make people ignore the issues, but still I think we should never let the positive aspects drown in the negative views :)
I have seen next to nothing of these problems in the fandom personally, closest thing I had for a while was a couple of people bothering me about my name and claiming I had ties to that mercenary group or whatever of the same name (A group which I wasn't even aware of at the time I came up with the name and character.) That got under my skin a bit more than it should have probably to the point where I was about to change my account name, but I adressed the issue and it died down not long after that.
I've never been to any furry cons (would like to some day though), and I keep contacts with the fandom to online only, also I try to stay out of any politics and religeon when talking to people so that probably helps to avoid potential problems. That said I have met plenty of decent and awesome people online in the fandom that I probably could talk to about such things without ending up with death threats and the like. =p
As for the video mentioned, I've watched it and I don't think it was a good idea to post that publically it only ends up making everyone look bad who is in any way involved with the furry fandom while it's only about the experiences of a handful of people. It'll only end up doing more harm than good... Maybe there are a few bad apples in the bunch like in any other fandom but I doubt it's anywhere near as bad as the video tries to portray or we'd probably hear a lot more of that sort of thing. I've seen far more positive things in the fandom honestly with people involved wwith doing fundraisers for charity, or something as simple as throwing someone a few bucks for a coffee.
