Technically thats discrimination. If its only a month old you can file a EEOC claim. It will take 6 months for them to get around but it might make them stop doing it to the next set of people
If it wasnt apparent of the interview and agreed SIGNED paperwork of you agreeing to do so. They cant make you pay for a work expense.
