It's objectively the best site to host art galleries on, period. It has a convenient tagging system and individual blogs can be searched for specific words or phrases and show every post in which they appear, or tags can be searched if you only want to search the tags and not what's said on the post as well.

This is a huge blow, the next most frequented site right now is fucking *Twitter*, which is the worst place to host a gallery ever conceived and requires to be filtered through other sides or browser extensions to function with any sort of logic. And doesn't allow you to save *gif images* without jumping through hoops to get original post URLs and going to other sites to download it through.

Really? To me -- someone who never hosted images on either service -- browsing both Tumblr and Twitter feels like the same endlessly-scrolling nightmare of images jumbled in with obnoxious reposts. I still find actual gallery sites like FA to be much easier to navigate, since you can just go to a user's page, click Gallery, and bam: nice cleanly-ordered thumbnails, and not a repost in sight.

Endless scrolling is just a really obnoxious choice some people make for their profile. But in Tumblr, again, *you can search for specific words or phrases and only see any posts containing them.* On an artist's profile. So you can see every post a specific person made about a specific subject and nothing else if you want. It makes navigation hella easy and striaght forward, and for some stupid reason nobody else has implemented that feature in the 11 years Tumblr's been a thing.

But that's assuming the artist properly tagged all their images, and a lot of artists are incredibly lazy about that sorta thing.

Or even said the word or phrase anywhere in the post, yeah. But if they didn't, it's still not harder to find than in a gallery unless they decided to turn on that *stupid* endless scroll option.

And any tag system that requests you to hit enter after each tag...I...I just don't don't understand...

had someone explain to me the other day how twitter and tumblr and other sites with *the scroll* keep you on the page, so while i agree that galleries are nicer, provided your page has things to look at, people have more of a chance to look

I cannot say I enjoy that stuff, but definitely think that trying to gut that out entirely and depending on a new userbase to replace the one that quits out of protest or fear is a sizable gamble. If I ever saw appeal in tumblr, it was that the site seemed so unregulated. It is a slow broken unsortable mess that favors obnoxious people and content, but anything can turn up there.

I'm fine with this as long as they actually keep to their word and don't pull a DeviantArt where "NO PORN ALLOWED WHATSOEVER!!! ^{unlessitfitstheadminshardcorefetish}"

Hopefully the bulk of artists finally stop using that place... tumblr has been a slowly sinking ship for ages now... about time people actually notice the water trying to drown them and jump onto a now boat made outta good materials this time.

PS: Having to re-track down everybody I bookmarked on tumblr is going to be a pain. sigh...

an that is how tumblr lost 95% of its user and bankrupted themselves

i wont go on a rant here, but while i'm not one, there are people who've built businesses off that site and being able to post nsfw, so this is reallllly fucking with some livihoods

My friend  teckworks lost his page a while back when the purge was going on. All those followers and people he did business with, gone.
