So my birdy bro
corrvo is doing a series of retrospective posts over on his DA page, and convinced me to try my hand at one of these things where you all ask and I try to answer them. Below you will find a list of questions. Pick a number, or if you are feeling daring, concoct one yourself.
DISCLAIMER: The author of this posts reserves the right to ignor, pass on, brush off, skip, abstain, or otherwise refrain from answering any and all questions he deems personal, invasive, out of bounds, over the line, or which I just don't feel compelled in putting forth any form of concerted effort to type out a reply.

"Star Trek is a big one, for sure. Going by different series, I identify with: Data in TNG, since he often ends up not knowing when to shut up and falls into awkward situations. From Voyager, I think I identify with the Doctor for sort of the same reason. And in DS9, I think I can't identify with any of them too much, but do feel a connection to Garak.
I was way big into Stargate, too. And I identify both with Daniel Jackson (though like pre season 7) and a bit with Teal'c, since he just always seems he has had too much of the BS going on."
"Oh heck no. I think if I grew up in an area where there was less open space and much more greenery, I would not have been as interested in earth sciences. I think if I grew up in a large city vs a smaller one, I might be either more sociable or perhaps more introverted. Though perhaps some of my interests in general things like science, speculative fiction, anthro art, birds, and travel would likely have stayed the same."
"For this question, I am going to focus on mostly outside of the online community, since you need only look at the list of who I watch to get an idea of some of the artists here I like.
Probably one of the biggest ones for me is John James Audubon. His illustrations of birds are second to none, and he basically was one of the people who set the groundwork for scientific illustration. Plus, come on, BIRDS!
Monet is another favorite of mine in terms of how he does landscapes and uses color in his paintings.
Two artists in more recent years are Wyland and Christian Riese Lassen. Both of them focused on art of the sea, which I deeply love. Wyland is known for much more serene, simple, and realistic representations and his larger than life murals. Lassen's art is just so bright, vivid and fantastical, I have loved it since I was a kid.
And in terms of architecture, which really is another form of art, I love a lot of the works of Frank Lloyd Wright. And while I'm far from the only person who thinks so, the house Falling Water is perhaps the most beautiful designed building I can think of."
Currently:
Empire of the Sun - Walking on a Dream
Carly Rae Jepsen - Run Away With Me

These are in no particular order...
I surf the net, A LOT. I love checking out art on DA, FA and other sites. I read tons of articles in the news or wikipedia. I study maps, watch videos, check out soccer games, and otherwise just sort of mess around online.
I listen to TONS of audiobooks. While I drive and commute, while I travel, when I am just relaxing at home, and during work, I love listening to books. Mostly non-fiction, but some novels, too.
I draw, or at least try to draw. When I can summon up motivation, I try to make things in a creative sense. "Try" being the important word there.
I do a lot of local traveling. Like, I will jump in my car and just go around town, or up to the lake, or into the mountains close by to find some fun places to explore, or hike, or a new restaurant or bar to try out.
I have been starting to get a little more into cooking. Not a lot, but enough to where I can slap together some healthier dinner options really quickly, and I could probably cook a nice dinner for friends, too.
Larry Niven, in a lot of his sci-fi novels like Ringworld and The Mote in God's Eyes, has a lot of ideas that fall in line with some of my own speculative fiction tastes. I would also say David Brin has a lot in common with how I envision worldbuilding and structuring sci-fi environments.
John McPhee is a great non-fiction author who makes even very dense topics accessible to regular readers, which I think is very important, especially for science and history-related topics.
And Lewis Black in his books has a great sense of how absurd everything in today's world is, and that you just have to acknowledge how ridiculous things can be.
Ahem, anyway...
As far as like one belief, saying or philosophy that permeates my life, I would say probably no. Though there are certainly a few which shape it here and there. It basically boils down to this: We just got to do the best we can. And really, that's sort of the way I look at life.
To be honest, I really am not, and never really have been. I was raised without any big religious or spiritual presence in my life, since my parents wanted me to make up my own mind. I do occasionally go to church with family members for things like XMas or Easter, since it is important to them. And I do Hanukkah and Passover each year with my Jewish family members. But nothing ever stuck with me. I believe more in science and the natural world, and I would almost like to call myself an atheist, but to be frank, all atheists I have ever met are complete jerks who feel so superior to everyone else. And besides, as a scientist, it also goes against our practices to fully dismiss higher powers out of hand, since we have no proof one way or the other.
