This goddamn YCH spam

Is anybody else really getting sick and tired of the YCH and especially the YCH reminder spam? Because I certainly do. I will only remove the same freaking reminder picture out of my inbox so many times before I will simply unwatch the artist.
I come here to see art. I do not come here to get visually ad spammed.

Oh my sweet summer child
And folders... exist now?
Still not great, but the most popular places usually aren't.
So guys be strong. Take care
You're essentially paying more (or sometimes less) for a picture where you have no creative control over it. It's got annoying because there's so many YCH's being spammed now. I just unwatch artists who spam YCH's. And I generally tend to avoid artists who do YCH's and prioritise them over commissioners who have been waiting 6 months.
I've been sorely tempted to write a small app that runs in TamperMonkey that hides YCH things on my submission page.
that said, i am sick to death of the reminders.
I would like to see a new submission type, maybe represented by the letter P in the top bar (like S = submissions, J = journals, N= notes), P would be Promotions. This would cover YHC, Auctions, Comission opening posts, streaming notices. Anything at all that is meant to be promotional for the artist and not a submission of actual artwork. I mean this should be drop dead simple for the IMVU team to implement.
This would not only reduce clutter in submissions, but it would also be very handy if someone wanted art, they could go and look through the promotions stream and look for open people. They could even set them up with a required expiration date so artists wouldn't have to remember to take them down when they expired. This would be helpful to both the artists and people looking for open commission slots and it would get people off 'neers back about it. Win/Win/Win.
Personally I don't mind the idea, but a lot of times if the YCH isn't sold, they'll constantly post up "reminder" pictures so that people watching them see it and it can get really annoying to see the same picture in your watch inbox all the time. I also feel it's really discouraging, since yeah, it's for the "richest of the rich" to win especially if the artist is popular.
Ta for the info.
I don't want to be someone who has nothing but YCHs in their gallery, and spams everyone with reminders.
Speaking of that I probably should unwatch a few people who have been doing that lately to an insane extent.
This post is from 3 years ago, but I still think it's relevant! <3
I read all comments here, and I 100% agree on your guys point of view! Similar to the old dev-art (DA) system, sometimes I would open my unread submissions notifications and get like... 10,000 artworks/posts and most of them selling adopts/YCHs, stuff like that! Or just artists that would somehow post 40 drawings per day (my tendinitis/hurt wrists could never!!) multiplying this number by thousands of artists I would follow... yeah. it was really annoying! And I imagine it also is similar here for you guys about the reminders, of course. Specially on the browse page!
As an artist, and freelancer, I would tell you guys that even the amount of times we announce the reminders, are still too little. If we could, we would advertise way more! (So that's why, as an artist, I 100% understand the limitations added by FA Staff to limit these numbers...). Because sometimes even when you announce everyday for 2, 3 months, you get like... 2 clients. And that's all. Sometimes more, sometimes less, even when you have professional quality art. The market just isn't the same as years ago (and that's understandable). That's why we also advertise on a lot of platforms at once.
And we... live from art money, so we HIGHLY depend on luck, advertising strategies (that includes the reminders), and the amount of people who see your art ''somewhere''. It's very rare that someone will magically find your profile and artwork out of nowhere and even buy a commission after that. So one of the best ways to get money to EAT still is... posting reminders, artworks, etc, the most frequent as you can. :/ It's also hard for us to maintain posting all those reminders over and over again, worrying about the best hours to do so, and posting on the other platforms altogether.
Sometimes, we are already too tired from drawing all day, managing e-mails/clients/social medias and still need to advertise that much... otherwise.. I don' think you'll get to pay rent next month lol
And in my personal case, of course, I have nothing to do with other artists pricing (as they know what's best for them, what prices fit their own effort and time etc..).
But I always try to make the prices for YCHs fair. I even created a separat account to focus on that, for affordable artworks in my style.
For example, I work in realism style, that costs me a lot of days, weeks to paint! A fullbody piece, in HIGH realism, HIGH detailing style would cost around 150$-even 200$ (it depends on the piece). Right?
So that's why my YCHs are priced 25$, 45$.... Etc. Let's break it down:
Because since I'm painting 'clone' artworks, they're easier and quicker to paint than those highly detailed, custom pieces. Right? It just makes sense in my own head and personal process. That way, I can also reach different publics/audiences that wouldn't spend 150$+ in an artwork (due to a lot of their own personal reasons...), but can buy a 35$ artwork, of course, maintaining good quality and good service! They still deserve to get good quality work of their beloved characters and ideas. So that's one of the reasons I sell YCHs :}
So that's why I also think it's unfair to insult the YCH market, guys ^^' think about it a little, for a while.
SOOOO, ANYWAYS xD in my personal opinion, as I read previous messages as well, I totally agree that creating a separate part of the site to post ''Promotional content'', like reminders, would be an amazing idea! A Marketplace!! Or like, if there was a separate category for us artists to post promotional content even on uploading page! I don't think that would be so hard for the staff to implement...
That way, the reminders and etc would be separated from the main artworks/general submissions pages! And organise everything better :3
So neither artists and neither clients, neither the furries and art lovers that aren't necessarily commissioners would get sad xD
Anyways, that's just my point of view... I hope I could explain better how it works for us artists. And add something interesting to this important discussion. c:
Thanks for your time and attention <3
