Okay it turns out that uploading files to FA is basically the worst thing ever! It won't let me change the thumbnail and for some reason the first upload rescaled the file down by a factor of like, 4x in each direction (64x loss in pixels).

Another tip is, try and upload in png, and either keep file sizes below 1200x1200 or else after uploading, reupload, and the full resolution file will be uploaded
