In my opinion, the only time when you start asking about the role play is when you noticed that the note has been read by looking at your outbox yet you don't get any reply from it.
But if they have a reason why they haven't replied, then it's best not to ask about the role play and wait until they're ready to reply back to you.
Or... They were about to reply but they have to go out.
How to start? Well, perhaps discuss it over notes?
