Yeah, I've been following that situation myself. It's getting rather ridiculous how these tech giants are starting to get into the business of policing peoples associations for the sake of restriction access to payment processors. I'm on a fixed income right now and can't afford to financially support any creators ATM, but after watching how Patreon threw their own TOS out of the window in favor of vague statements about the policing the 'brand' of the creators that use their service I'd be terminating my own account as well. Luckily it does look like new payment processors are starting to step up to fill this niche in the market. But it looks like it's going to be rough going for independent creators for some time yet.

Yup. These people are doing everything they can to shut down all other points of view. They claim they believe in freedom of speech... BUT. And that but is if you disagree with them. These people used to say 'if you don't like our policies, start your own business'. Well, now that people are, they're abusing their power and the law to shut those other businesses down.

That they are. There's a new trend where far left activist groups that actively campaign to deplatform their ideological enemies of the very ability to use basic financial services. This isn't exactly that much of a new thing, there's been a number of attempts over the years to try to financially deplatform business in the firearms industry. In fact the Obama Administration actually got into the act when they started 'Operation Choke Point', which was largely targeted at the firearms industry. But now, well deplatforming has just flat out exploded as a popular tactic. For some reason some people have decided that some speech is just too dangerous to even allow to be spoken of on the internet. And they're trying to use multi-national media conglomerates and social platforms to use their institutional power to make to their bidding.

There's some people out there that seems to see fascists across all of society and they think they need to do something about it. To those, I'd suggest looking in a mirror first. [/rant]

We're in the opening stages of the next civil war. These people have finally gotten to a point where they have power and they're willing to abuse it. Meanwhile no one will enforce the laws. Eventually everyone is going to realize that there are no laws, beyond that they make themselves. That's when the bad things start.

Well I don't know if I'd go that far, but I might go so far as to say we're in that general trajectory. That said, as already stated these big-tech platforms are a problem, and it could be said that there are people in them that are some of the people that are agitating for civil unrest.

Best thing for anybody to do... is to set up a direct PayPal on a webspace somewhere so people who wish to support you can click the little PayPal button and just nuke the middle-man entirely. That way you don't have to deal with Patreon, or anybody else like them.

Though, sadly, Paypal isn't really the best thing to be doing either because they're getting into this politics crap.

PayPal donation is a single time thing, patreon allows a more stable and predictable income which is really important.

You can't set up recurring payments with PayPal? I used to subscribe to an MMO and they had recurring Paypal subscriptions, though I'm not sure how all that works.

Well, that's just like running your debit card at an ATM. They take like $3 now as if it really costs $3 to do an electronic funds transfer (it doesn't). Same type of scam. That's why I only use my card at Point-of-Sale but even then, the fee gets dumped on the POS owner (which is why you see so many $5 minimum purchase with cards everywhere).

funny thong is subscribestar is having issue because of paypal and a complaint of collusion has been filed against paypal and patreon as paypal controls over 60% of the digital payment provider market. So, it will take some time because paypal might be forced to allow paments on Subscribestar because they own too much market power.
