Back to studying in late February! (And commission talk)
Hey guys
Got some news the other day. I got my letter of offer to do the course I've been meaning to do for a while now. The course will be the Diploma in Graphic Design.
I was supposed to do this after I completed the Cert IV in Design (which some of you may remember me doing a couple of years ago). But when my dad and I lost our previous house early 2017, those plans ended up being on hold.
It's been a long wait, but it was all worth it. I finally have something to do instead of sitting around at home all day. I tried looking for work, I handed in so many resumes within the last year, and to come up with nothing for that long can be a little disappointing.
I will be doing all I can to make sure I finish the remaining commissions I have on my list between now and when I begin (on the 25th of Feb). I can't guarantee it (because my estimates are always way off), but it's what I hope for at the very least.
Speaking of which, once I've completed what's remaining on my queue, I'll probably be taking a small break from accepting any commission work. Not only because I want to focus on my studies, but I think the biggest reason is that my heart is still not quite fully devoted to doing artwork. I think doing so much work for other people, and not really focusing on what I want to draw for myself has been a long term struggle for the last two years. I may just have a couple of months, to kind of evaluate what I can do to improve the situation. Take some time to draw things for myself, and to give myself a creative boost. I think that will be the best way to go about it.
And when I do make myself available again, I may do a thing which other artists have done previous. That's to maybe post a opening journal, where people who would want to get something from me submit their ideas in the comments section or something like that. I pick out the ones that appeal to me most, and move on from there.
I completely understand if some of you think it sounds kind of selfish and picky, and maybe you're right. But I want to be able to deliver quickly, because I think I've tarnished my reputation as a commissioning artist in the last couple of years. And I REALLY want to fix that up as much as I can. Because if someone has commissioned me something, and I haven't got much interest in the concept of the piece, it's going to be a bit hard for me to find motivation to work on it.
But for at least February-April, I'll be using that time to refresh myself totally before being available for any kind of commission work.
Anyways, hope you guys and doing well and keeping it real ^.^

Congrats again on getting into your course mate :D :D On the commission taking idea, I think it's a good one to help you keep interest up and produce your best work. And will be awesome to see more of your personal work too ^__^
