Into the Spider-verse [spoilers]

Anyone who's known me for more than 5 minutes probably knows what would draw me in, here. I have a thing for a man with stubble. And a gut. The way they render Peter in this is truly spot-on, I love the way he's not really fat anywhere except the middle. His chest isn't flabby...I love arms that are toned but not grossly developed. And arm hair. And feet. Off track.....
Fat aside, I loved everything about this movie. I'm so glad we got the chance to see it in the theater....the animation was fantastic, I love the comic book style, it was funny, actiony, and the story was engaging....sweet, without being sappy.
One thing I found particularly intriguing was the juxtaposition of Peter B. Parker with his blond counterpart. It's something that makes his character very relatable...he's looking at the idealistic version of himself: pretty, talented, popular, no glaring flaws. It's why so many people are so taken with celebrity, but that's not real life. The majority of us aren't pretty, we have problems, sometimes insurmountable ones, we screw things up, and the whole city won't grind to a halt when we pass. But that doesn't mean we don't have value, can't accomplish great things if we try.
It's easy to feel for Peter especially if you're not just unpretty, but socially awkward. "You're weird". I get that one a lot. I take it as a compliment. Because there's a lot of weirdos out there, which means there's someone to love you the way you are, all unperfect and beat to shit.
Plus Stan Lee was there. We sure will miss him.
