The Octarix



Octarix are a CLOSED Aquatic species! You are NOT permitted to make or design your own outside of PAID MYO(Make Your Own) SLOTS!


Colors:
Eyes- Brown, Green, blue, Mixed colors (It is a rare occurrence to have non natural colored eyes)
Blood- Blue
Fins, ears, and tail- Tipped in white or black (Or a darker or lighter color of their skin color)
Skin- Can Come In a Variety of colors.

Parts:
Fins- Arm, leg, back (does not posses hip fins)
Ears- Tall And Pointed With Sensory Fluff
Paws- Sucker Paw Pads, Retractable claws
Tails- Tails Have the body of a shark with suckers along the underside

DIET:
Clams, Shrimp, Lobsters, Fish, And Other Small Land Dwelling Animals.

FUNCTIONALITY
Eyes:
- Duplex retinas (Rods enable the Octarix to see light and darkness, while cones allow for the detection of color)
- Equipped with a tapetum lucidum (A layer of mirrored crystals located behind the retina that detects light for a second time if the light is not properly processed the first time. Such an adaptation enables Octarix to see even in dark or murky water and up to ten times greater than humans in clear water. Similar to a cats eye an Octarix eyes will appear to glow when a light is flashed at them.)
- Wears either glasses or contacts when out of water to assist with blurry vision
- May or may not posses a Nictating membrane (A clear membrane that covers and protects the eye when an Octarix bites its prey. If not an Octarix will roll their pupils back in their heads for protection when feeding.)
- In frigid waters can heat their eyes with a special organ in their eye socket so they can hunt more efficiently regardless of the temperatures.
Hearts: An Octarix has 3 hearts, Two hearts serve to move blood past the gills, while the third pumps blood through the rest of the body.
Camouflage: Their skin changes color and pattern to blend in with their surroundings. They can turn blue, gray, pink, brown or green.
Regeneration: They Can Regrow their limbs and tails if severed
Vocals: They do not have vocal cords, so they make no sounds and cannot speak. They have however developed telepathy, the ability to speak with the mind and project their voice into other non telepathic and telepathic creatures alike.
Ears: Ear Fur has electroreception to navigate the ocean and notice prey. They can hear prey up to 3000 feet away.
Suckers: Suckers Along tail Can be used to grasp objects, and On base of paws give extra stability when on tough terrain and while climbing or to better grip the oceans floor.
Bones: Octarix are cartilaginous their skeletons are made of cartilage instead of bone.
Scales: They Have dermal denticles also called placoid scales, which are smooth and silky, they help them move quickly through the water.

Reproduction and Pups
- Females will lose their appetites a month before giving birth. This is a biological trigger to prevent them from eating their own pups.
- Gestation lasts around 15 Months (1 year 3 months)
- Litter size is around 2-5 pups But usually only 1 survives, In rare cases 2 will survive (Pups Are Carnivorous Inside the womb The First Pup To Hatch will eat its siblings)
- Soon after birth, Octarix pups are able to fend for themselves.
- They Can Reproduce Asexually or Sexually
- Reproduction only happens four, rarely five times in the Octarix entire lifespan.

Lifespan: Around 500 years They reach Sexual Maturity at the age of about 120.
Height: 4"-6" Males Tend to be Larger then females.
Weight: Females avg around 135-160 pounds, Males avg around 200-250. Their tails alone will weigh around 200-300 pounds depending on how large/small they are.

Odd Facts:
- In the case of a severed limb(s) or wound(s) an Octarix will rub their wound(s) against a Gorgonian bush for its natural anti-inflammatory and anti-microbial mucus properties.
- If living on land they will never be far from a bay or ocean for they need to keep their skin moist to keep from drying up. They need to return to water at least 1 day a week.
- Telepathic abilities are learned though time usually the ability is fully functional at the age of 50. Often times while learning their voice volume will fluctuate or break in an out at times like a static radio going out of range.
Before they are able to use telepathy often times they will rely on body language to communicate.
- In the water they can sustain a minimum speed of around 2.9 mph (4.7 km per hour), but they are capable of reaching speeds of up to 31 mph (50 km per hour) in short bursts.
