Well if they can't or won't come to and agreement within 30 days (14 days if they are not embalmed and in refrigeration) the funeral home asks the Justice of the peace sign and order to go ahead and either bury the body at a city or county owned cemetery the county treats it as and indigent service.

The county pays us for the basic steel 20 gauge casket and graveside service if the family wants or direct cremation its up to the family if they want that. The county almost always goes for burial then cremation just for liability issues if there might be unknown next of kin. Its rare we've ever have that happen.

These folks I was talking of the mother had already prepaid for her style of casket and graveliner (concrete box the casket lays in) what was left was the opening and closing of the grave (grave diggers charges which we can't control its a different company) and the plot and city charges which came to a little over 800 dollars.

They couldn't apply for indigent services because they owned property and the mother had several life insurance policies that could of paid for this funeral over ten times. They all had the money or money coming to them. They where just constantly feuding over who pays. Eventually I had to change the casket to a cheaper casket and use the money in the preneed to pay the difference.

Very much so, it tends to happen normally some folks can set aside there differences and come to and agreement on something like this but you still have your exceptions.

Yeah I've seen the good and bad in people, I've seen fights break out that could warrant being aired on jerry springer to really greedy people wanting me to take out gold fillings (which I'll never do, if they want them so bad they can get a dentist to pull them) to really nice people.

I've told them that we don't do that they would get mad and I nip it in the bud and tell them your going to have to find money else where or pay a dentist ten times the cost of pulling them to get them. I'm not shy telling a family to get out and find either another funeral home or go cool off and come back when you all made up your mind.
