Short Rant, Long Update on Current Happenings

I really wish there was a way to turn off journal alerts. That's probably what most of the people that see this in their alerts are saying. There are a ton of artists I like to see art from, but I wish they would keep the inane myspace-type crap off these boards. I wouldn't care as much if there was an option to block the notices. But there isn't. And I'm sure this has come up before.
Anyway. I know I don't post much, almost exclusively due to my own lack of dedication and motivation. But I managed to crank out that last Buru picture in a few hours with a little experimenting in Flash. The lines are a lot cleaner, so I'm going to keep using this for now as much as I can. I've started another drawing with just the pose sketched out and the rest is being done through Flash. We'll see how that goes.
I really, really want to get a better tablet though. I know there are some at Circuit City that are ideal, but the 300 dollar price has that on hold. Right now, I'm using a pad I got at some computer parts store for 50 dollars. It does alright, but has a lot of flaws. It doesn't draw diagonally without zig-zagging sometimes and it skips over part of my screen. I'm lucky to have it for now though.
I think my latest relationship has got me inspired a bit. She's a writer and is looking for a publisher for her fantasy book she's finished. She has a script for a comic she's been wanting to see done. It was put in a drawer somewhere for a while since she said she didn't have an artist for it. I've asked to take a crack at doing a couple pages to see what I can do. So far the collaboration is coming along well. I've got sketches done she seemed to like and I'm about to start inking them in flash. Unfortunately she lives a few hours away so we've only seen each other a few times and its hard to match our schedules up to see each other in person. I hope we can work things out in the long run though.
Now that I'm getting a little more productive, I've been considering taking commissions. But I'm not sure if I'd have enough takers that would pay to make it worthwhile in paying for a new tablet. :3
I guess that's my quarterly rant. Thanks for reading and thanks for the replies on my last journal entry. They did help.

I think it's good that people can't turn off journal notices, since that way, fanboys are less likely to start thinking of artists as machines that crank out pictures. And even though it's a pretty minor notice, and easy to just hit "select all" and "remove", it's still a little something... *shrugs* I dunno.
I'm glad things are working pretty well for you. I don't know much of anything about drawing tablets, though. Last one I bought was for my sister, and all it did was essentially take over the mouse. ^_^;;
Yeah, I can definitely understand that scenario, and when disabling journal updates for that artist can be handy.
