You should check with your doctor to see if you have Celiac Disease

I actually did! The blood test came back negative, but it's actually quite difficult to tell with any certainty through blood work alone. Things have to be quite bad already for there to be enough antibodies or whatever for the test to give a positive result. A biopsy of the small intestine is much more reliable, but also a lot more invasive.

Celiac disease does actually run in my family, though. My mother and my grandmother both have confirmed diagnoses, and there's some cousins on my mother's side of the family with the same problems, too. So it's Occam's Razor at this point, really.

Woo! Glad to hear you figured it out. Too bad it's gluten, but at least you know now. And, at least these days there's often gluten-free options for a lot of things!

true! Plus my mother got into the habit of baking her own bread once she was diagnosed, so I've got a pretty steady supply of really tasty gluten-free bread.
