A word on changes, site interfaces and trends.
Embracing changes for the sake of novelty and "keeping up with the times", as well as following trends boosted by the normalcy, without questioning whether they're necessary/desired or not, is one of the ways we allow sites to do questionable interface layout & style changes.
It's also how Microsoft went from two of it's best logos (1,2) to something you can do in MS Paint or GIMP in a few minutes (this), all for the sake of trying to imitate Google's minimalism.
Meanwhile, Apple has had emsentially the same logo -- just with different paint jobs -- since 1977.
ABC (American Broadcasting Co.) has used pretty much the same logo since 1953, and IBM since 1972 -- which was an update of the previous 1956 logo by the same designer, a certain Paul Rand.
there's something to be said for letting timeless designs stand on their own.
Similarly, two of our local networks have kept the same logo structure for as long as I've been in this world.

America (then & now)
in 2003, United Parcel Service gave up a logo they had used for several decades, but it was not an enormous change.
The previous logo was introduced in 1961 -- another fairly famous Paul Rand design that endured more than 40 years.
