...I'm still neutral on the new look overall. I "kinda" like it, but I don't mind it. It still works IMO.
And at the 2:45 mark, you can tell Jim Carrey becomes true Eggman-style Robotnik without knowing if he becomes fat or not. So That works for me too.
Overall, not surprised by the new designs for the characters, nor the reaction to the trailer so far.
Some trailers get more dislikes than others, etc.
Overall, I'm neutral with what I've seen so far, so even if the story sucks, I might still watch this.
So for me, "The Jury is Out."

For extra characters, it perhaps need more persuade to get right for them. Or perhaps, following the IDW Publishing comics, one character per movie. (Much like recently Power Ranger movie, which had the prologue of the Rangers, with introducing of Green Ranger for sequel...)
And that's my two cents for the thought.
Jim Carrey's Robotnik feels more like Jim Carrey to me than Robotnik. I mean, I don't know how much more Robotnik he would need to be, but if I didn't already know he was playing Robotnik I don't think I'd be reminded of Robotnik. Then again, the trailer demonstrates that he becomes more Robotnik as the movie goes on, so maybe his acting gets closer throughout as well. Hard to say. I just hope he doesn't become CGI by the end of the film just to get the "Classic" look.
I don't know what my expectations for Sonic's facial animations were, but I'm positive they weren't met. I mean, it's not horrific, but it is pretty bad. Proficient, but bad. To draw the unfortunately comparison, the Pokemon in Detective Pikachu may be creepy, but they're not this. I'm sure they put a lot of work into making Sonic seem like a "Real" creature, and that was probably their first mistake. A fuzzy version of the in-game model would've been fine (again, just look at Detective Pikachu), but they decided to gamble on "Realism" and lost. Granted, they manage to avoid the uncanny valley for the most part, but it just doesn't look right.
Also, why does Sonic have to be a Strange Visitor from Another Planet? Is this Sonic X, the movie? I feel like there's all too often this weird tendency for Hollywood to adapt video games and other "Kids" things in movies by either dragging its characters into "the real world" or sending "normal" people into theirs. I remember the plot of the He-Man movie featuring him and his crew getting stuck on Earth, and the Monster Hunter movie is apparently an isekai staring U.S. marines or something. The Mario Bros. movie was an isekai, too. These franchises worked just fine trying to bring "Reality" into them, and I don't know who would think that idea was interesting besides the writers.
You know what this is? It's the reverse of the Mario Bros. movie. Instead of humans getting dragged into the Mushroom Kingdom, it's a Mobian going to Earth for some reason. And both have a villain that doesn't quite look like the main villain from the games who winds up looking more like him at the end. Granted, CGI Bowser was a mess that still didn't look like Bowser and got, like, five seconds of screen time before being turned into slime. I get the impression Jim Carrey is going to transition more slowly and probably look more accurate (which isn't saying much).
