I'm an adult now? When did that happen? O.O
16 years ago
School's been back in session here for about a week, and this has to be one of the strangest semesters ever for me...
First of all, this is the first time I haven't lived close enough to campus to walk to the Anthro department. That means when I do have to go in, I have to drive about 20 min and battle the stupid freshman for parking spaces.
I find I"m getting much more crochity in my old age as well. Was I really that stupid as an undergrad?
This is also the first time since Kindergarten I've been out of classes. I'm teeeechnically still a student b/c I'm still finishing my thesis, but I'm completely done with all my classwork. It is WEIRD to walk around my department and not be hurrying to class. Also strange not having homework to work on (not that I don't have enough projects....)
Finally I was nominated by one of my favorite professors/colleagues to serve on the ASSC (Anthropological Society of South Carolina) board for next year. Now, its not a HUGE organization, but it's always been run by people I saw as my superiors; those who had been working in the field for a time and knew their shit. The fact I was nominated kinda struck me as a surprising blow - people I respect consider me in a position to help serve on this board....I've apparently had enough education and experience to know what I'm talking about o.O I still don't feel like I know enough or have had enough experience...but then I don't know if I'll ever feel that way. I still kinda feel like I'm playing at being an archaeologist/adult....like its still some silly school assignment, not my real friggin life.
I'm gonna go eat chocolate cereal and watch cartoons till this feeling passes....:-P

Was I really that stupid as an undergrad?
Probably. I was totally dumb with how I did stuff back in college.
I know I did some stupid stuff, but there are a lot of undergrads here that must have been let out of a cage or something...NO common sense!
... doesn't exactly make for the wisest decisions ever.
Seriously though, I think its just the whole time thing...being able to look back and realize how I've changed from my days like that
*hugs...

I feel your pain about the parking. I'm taking some classes at a local college and get there about 10 am for my first class and the lot is jammed full already. I have to stalk people as they walk to their cars in hopes of grabbing a space. I feel creepy driving 2mph behind a pedestrian as they walk through the lot.
And as a returning student, the undergrads do seem really dim to me too. When they ask the instructors questions I just cringe in embarrassment for them.
Congratulations on being nominated for the board. your peers really respect you and your work.
