[updates] Horse troubles
So, I know that I posted a little while ago about my mom’s horse having her eye infection. That went over fairly well, but she was unable to be showed this year because she was still recovering, and since our horse trainer’s barn was getting full, we got someone else to board her out at a larger barn, where she’d mainly be a pasture horse for the year.
Well, recently she’d been having complications with her front left leg. I hadn’t posted at all about this, thinking it might have just been a muscle twist or something. It turned out that she broke her shoulder. We don’t know when this happened or how— perhaps she hit the fence too hard when she was running and made a sudden stop, maybe she twisted it, we don’t know, and at this point it doesn’t matter much.
The vet was saying it should be alright if we wait a while to see how things play out, but... he didn’t have much hope for her to recover. Once one leg goes out, they have to use the other 3 to distribute their weight, and then its only a matter of time til the other 3 give out. Horses are evolutionarily very fragile, if you know at all how they are.
I’m mostly going to be supporting my mom through this, since horse-riding has been her passion ever since I was 10, and she stayed in the sport much longer than I did. She’s absolutely devastated. Between everything that’s gone on with our animals the past year and a half- our cat going missing, this horse’s eye infection, the same cat ended up getting a broken jaw, and now this- she’s really broken up and beating herself up for it, and I really need to be supporting her right now. Of course, this doesn’t mean I won’t be working on commissions, but... if I take a while to communicate, that’s why. I need to be ready to drop everything and go with them for support.

i have horses too and where we board them one horse ended up getting kicked by another and breaking a bone around his shoulder. it wasnt good for him and he wasnt going to heal up right :(
i hope things can turn around for you guys, and hopefully things start looking up.
We've had horses since i was 4 and its def one of the most devastating things when stuff happens to them
In terms of horses, this is the first loss of a horse that we’re dealing with. So it’s very hard on both my mom and I. Horse riding was one of those things that kind of shaped my childhood, and it’s such a big part of my mom’s present life. She was very excited to get back into riding after being away for so long due to being on a second shift job, and then this hit, and.. it’s been a lot harder on her than it has been for me.
But yeah, all we can really do is hope for the best, but also be emotionally ready if the time comes where it’ll just be better to put her down. We can’t let her live like that if she’s just going to get worse and be in even more pain. But, the doc is allowing us to monitor her for a few days and see if she gets better, so there’s some fraction of hope, at least.
