PHANTASM AMA and discussion
Well I usually do this at the end of a comic but that’s not possible so here we are consider this a spoiler warning if you want to be unspoiled finish the game and come back
!!!SPOILER WARNING!!!
First and foremost the music in the game was done by the wonderful Jusu-Tengu you can find the OST right here https://jusu-tengu.bandcamp.com/alb.....l-phantasm-ost
As always feel free to post any questions or curiosities you have this is the spoiler zone so nothing is off limits
I want to some time to tell you what this game means to me feel free to skip this if you just want to ask your question. I’ve been trying to make games for a very long time, before I even posted my first piece of art to the internet, In that time I manage to complete a total of 0 games. Even when I finally got the skills to make a game, I would get burned out trying to make it and end up hating what I was making. That of course wasn’t all that was going on at that time; I was struggling with deep depression among other darker things I won’t mention. PHANTASMS is based on the time for me, the struggle and journey of just trying to take the first step towards a better life. The game may be rough around the edges and took double the time I planned to make, but I think it’s something special and I’m glad I made it. If anything it’s important to show me how much I’ve grown.
Anyways sorry for the sob story on to the AMA

What do you feel your main inspirations draw from game wise, I know Dark Souls and and RotMG(or sorts) even Undertale are probably good answers, but i'd like to know more in details as to why you chose this type of game and the mechanics (Ash, Multiple Weapons, Dual Swap, Energy management, Mix and choose abilities, Overhead view, etc.)
Which part did you struggle the most on while making it and which one do you feel you've improved at ?
How hard was it to map out the "linearity" of the game, as in how the player would progress through the game and have some choices through it ?
I'm extremely proud of what you've accomplished by making this game and convey a message with it and it ending in a positive note. I'll make another post with story questions another time <3
You got a lot of the smaller inspirations the "Skill crafting" with the axioms and verses was inspired by Path of Exile gems and the potion crafting in Plague of Shadows. By far the biggest inspiration was Lucah Born of a dream, on top of being a good game I was attracted to it by it's super simple but stylish art, Playing it made me feel like maybe I could make something like this.
I just couldn't ever figure out what to do next especially when I started, the first month of development was all either trashed or retooled as the game took shape
I had what I wanted the game to be down early, but how to achieve that in the story and play changed as time went on believe it or not Luca or any character like him wasn't even in the first version. I think it hurt the game, only the last half really got across what I wanted
