From what I've seen, not really. Mastodon was pitched as an alternative to Twitter, but it didn't get picked up by most furries.

I run asonix.dog, but I'd say good instances to join would be yiff.life or snouts.online or vulpine.club

I don't recommend joining mine because I run it out of my apartment on really cheap hardware so it's slow and not always reliable :3

Also, it would be good to join an instance with a denser furry population, since each instance has a "home timeline," which is other users on the same instance as you. A furry instance will have a furrier home timeline, and it will be easier to find similar content

So i assume you see a feed of stuff from people you follow everywhere mixed with a general pile of everyone in your instance?

Edit: Just realized I said "home timeline" in my previous comment, that should have said "local timeline"

There's different feeds:
- The feed for people you follow (Home Timeline)
- The feed for people on the same server as you (Local Timeline)
- The feed for everyone your server knows about (Public Timeline)

Mostly sticking to the Home Timeline is a good idea, but it's nice to have a good local community

Yup, I'm over on Baraag, an instance that allows any kind of fictional art to be posted (especially stuff FA doesn't like). I use the Tusky app for android to help me navigate on my phone.

Baraag is a pretty cool place and has been muted/silenced by the greater Mastodon network thanks to its stance on what art is/isn't allowed.

I think baraag is blocked by yiff.life, snouts.online, and related. It's definitely blocked on asonix.dog

It's all fictional content so I fail to see what the issue is. But I'm not here to change minds.

One that hasn't been mentioned yet is meow.social. It was one of the few furry options before the tumblr exodus, but I think snouts would probably be the most popular? I've noticed it's had some migrations there.

It's amusing to hear they're just going to " flag " any content from Trump that may violate their Terms of Service, but everyone else still gets the ban hammer. ( Even if only temporary )


Also amusing to realize what sort of content they DO allow ( especially some of the extreme art ) yet, if you openly criticize the wrong person or dare say something that goes against the echo chamber, they absolutely lose their damn minds.

I've been on Vulpine.Club for a while; I was originally on another instance that retired.

It's a whole lot less headache-y than Twitter.

What happens when your instance "retires"? Can you migrate your blog to a different one or do you have to start over?

I was able to export everything - toots, following and block lists, but there isn't an option that I am aware of for re-importing all of your past toots when this happens on an instance you do not own.

I'm okay with that, though, since if I really worried overly much about my posts on an SNS, Twitter alone would leave me fully distraught with 27,000+ tweets that little can be done with.

I've heard snouts.online is a primary furry twitter alternative, with the advantage of it being that it's curated and moderated, as well as having more options to hide words and people in a similar way to the xkit addon for tumblr. I'm not sure about it being an alternative to tumblr for posting like twitter, but if you're looking for a less toxic version of twitter's social media aspect, Mastodon is your best bet from what I've heard.

Nah, my art is not very transgressive... but tweeting angrily at our embarrassment of a president was deemed "harassment" and worthy of 7 days' suspension
