Hello everyone!
As you may have noticed, many of the newsletter articles lately had to do with creativity and how you approach or learn certain things.
I would like to ride that train of thought a little while longer, so today's question is about songwriting.
I would like to know how you approach new original songs and compositions.
Do you put in a lot of detail right away or do you prefer starting with something like a "sketch"?
I'm the kind of guy who likes to work on details very early on, while a good friend of mine usually gets started by playing a few chords on a guitar or something to figure out the basic structure first.
I tend to get carried away, which often leads to so-far-great-sounding-but-unfinished projects.
Although for me personally I find it depends a lot on whether or not a song is supposed to have lyrics or not. If I intend to come up with a vocal part, I usually keep it a lot more simple in the beginning.
Which also leads me to the question: Do you usually work on your lyrics first or rather the music?
Next, let's take a quick look at...
