How I charge for my art
I'm getting real fed up with some peoples' attitude lately so listen up
I charge based on how long an art piece takes me. I have an hourly rate I try to go by. I charge what I think MY TIME is worth.
I do not charge based on what you think the "value" of a piece is.
I'm not a retail store. I'm a human being providing a service who's doing art as a part time job to afford things. If I give you a price, that's the price. I can offer to do something less expensive at a lower quality, but I'm not going to discount my art for anyone. I don't even give discounts to friends anymore unless I'm really feeling like it. I can't afford it! Please understand this.
I'm getting so tired. If you don't like my prices, don't commission me. I don't know what else to say.

I'm all for artists using art as a side job along side their normal 9am to 5pm type job, whatever that may be, but to flat out charge for art like it is your only source of income like if you loose just one buyer you loose your car or house, seriously people, get real, and get a normal 9am to 5pm type job to carry you for the people who can't afford your prices. my god.
you, however, you produce awesome quality art with very good prices and your calm and patient with people who have to save their money to buy your nice quality artworks.
Artists are allowed to price at whatever they think they're worth. Whether it is their full time job or not.
Some artists are disabled, some artists can't handle a 9 to 5.
if you really can pull enough money to pay for a house and car with just artwork, you go ahead, but just remember where the term starving artist came from.
Art is a real job. I work a 7:30 - 5 work day. I have no time to draw due to this. You really expect people to produce quality art and work full time on top of this? I know I can't and thus I lose the option to even sell commissions.
Most artists have to make a decision. Work full time on art or full time in a "normal" job. Or work part time in a generally low paying job because well paying part time work is EXTREMELY hard to find.
So even part time artists struggle with not having enough money to get by.
Once again. Stop gatekeeping artists.
But I know that's not viable for myself personally, and I just want people to respect the time I put into my work and understand that when I say a certain price, I'm not challenging them :( I've had people tell me that raising my price from $5 to $15 was too much, even though I spent a couple hours or more on each drawing. Or that my multi-character sketch wasn't worth as much as a single character colored piece even if it took the same amount of time...
I just wanted to say I'm not talking bad of artists who do charge those prices. I'm much more upset at people who try to take advantage of me and make me feel bad for charging what I do, when I don't even charge much when it comes down to it
I agree that artists should be paid for the time they take to produce the art that is ordered.
