I don't have a ton of tips since I'm new too but the wiki is super helpful! I'm constantly looking stuff up there!
If you click with your mouse-wheel when looking at a block, you character automatically takes that block out if you have it in your inventory.
Wood < Stone < Gold < Iron < Diamond
Most importantly though, have fun!
That's what I meant, sorry
Monsters spawn in darkness, even during the day, so be sure to light up every cave you explore with torches. They also can't see you through glass.
Trees can drop saplings, which grow into new trees when planted.
Just have fun! DL some mods :)))
Second thing you should do is get a bit of food.
Sheep drop mutton that you can cook for a decent food source, and also drops wool that is necessary for making a bed. You'll want to sleep to set your spawnpoint at your home incase you die. This also requires wood.
You can make a wooden pickaxe pretty easily, which then you'll want to dig up some stone to make a stone one. After that, is Iron, and then you'll be able to search out diamonds to make a diamond pickaxe.
A good rule of thumb is if it's taking a long time to mine, you probably aren't using the right tool. Get a better pick if you're not able to mine it.
Creepers explode. Don't get too close.
Zombies just kinda dick around and chase you.
Little Zombies are the worst. Avoid them.
Sleep often. If you stay awake too long Phantoms will spawn.
Skeletons are ranged mobs. They'll shoot you with arrows. Avoid them if you don't have your own bow or a shield.
Spiders are only hostile during night hours or if you find them in caves.
