Sorry about deleting that journal
I want to apologize to anyone who took the time to read last night's journal and wanted to respond before I deleted it. I felt like I was ultimately complaining about a first-world problem I can't do anything about anyway. I'd love to see public opinion on bird characters change for the better, but it's hard when media representation of them does nothing to influence that. They're often written as jerks or relegated to slapstick fodder for other characters, and it makes me wonder if it's because most people don't find them cute or appealing enough to be anything else. It's made me wonder what others think of my OCs. It's been such a slow process trying to get my OCs to take off in a meaningful way that it's made me feel really discouraged behind the scenes.
If you didn't see last night's journal, you can just ignore this one. Or don't. It doesn't matter, really.

In your opinion what are some good bird characters out there in the media?
rn I can only think of Falco from startfox and Kazooie from Banjo&Kazooie that I like, rude birds are apparently my favorite kind of bird character XD
I see Kazooie being used as a blunt object in Smash Bros. because she "deserves" it. She's a mean character. There's not much room for us to admire her for reasons beyond sardonic ones. She's a fun nostalgic character with a cute design... but she's also the object of abuse for the other characters because she's written as abusive herself. That's why you're suppose to laugh when Banjo strangles her or slams her into the ground. It's a precedent set for pretty much most well-known bird characters, even the ones that are given really cute designs.
To answer your question, I'd say Mordecai from Regular Show is a great example of a bird character who's written in a way the viewer can resonate with on a deeper level. He's J.G. Quintel's self-insert, so naturally Mordecai was written in a way that made him relatable to anyone watching the show. He had flaws, but he also had a lot of emotional depth. I'd like to see that in more bird characters, rather than "SQUAWK, I'm loud and mean! Now to get my comeuppance from the characters the audience is suppose to love more!"
