I think a lot of furry artists just have the same dream, doing art for a living or doing it as a side job.

There's plenty of reasons for artists to do YCH. I will agree that it's the more 'lazy' approach to commissions though.

Also, you look at the front page? I haven't seen that since I joined the website.

Yeah... it's terrible. Especially since with YCH's you have zero freedom, just your character in that pose or situation and nothing else. Not something I'd be willing to spend money on.

I still draw for the heck of it luckily (even working on a new comic too =P), although I've been experimenting doing commissions, dunno if I'll actually open up for them seeing as I don't like obligations and besides, I'd like to keep my freedom. Heh~ Hobbies are better when they're just hobbies. ^^

Making art is fine, but a guy's gotta eat. In this economy everything's a revenue stream.

And well, the spirit is still there, but many count on all that to survive these days.
