Equine Ramblings: Tools of the Trade
I've been asked before about what I use to create my written works. Some people assume that I use some sort of Microsoft product, but as most of us can attest to, shelling out $300 for a word processing program (or suite of office products) is not my idea of a productive way to spend that kind of money.
Same thing for my digital art in my galleries. I don't have the $300 to $500 to shell out for Adobe, or Poser, or the thousands required for something like Maya.
Instead, I have to settle for some back-woods, Podunk, unheard of softwares like The GIMP for my photo editing, Blender for my 3d modeling, and OpenOffice.org for my word processing.
The wonderful part about each of these is: Free (as in beer)!!! Followed, of course, by the Open Source Software concept, free (as in beer), and an excellent community of support for each one. (Did I mention that they were free (as in beer)?).
If you're kinda strapped, and need something to play around with... take a look at these wonderful alternatives to costly software!

Depending on what I need, I rotate between Open Office and MS Office 2000.
