No rest for the rodents
It's been a while, eh.
As some of the more astute (or perhaps merely fanatical) of you may have noticed, I fell into a bit of a lapse for the better part of this past year. Rest assured, I had my reasons for doing so. And they were all infuriating.
Unfortunately they're also quite dull, so I'll just sum it up in a progression of three maladies each one serving to beget the next:
Stress, gastric reflux, and insomnia.
In short, it has not been a fun year. And yet the remedy to most of it came in a humble form I could not have foreseen:
Oatmeal.
Yeah. I'm as surprised as you are. It turns out it does wonders for gastric reflux, and no less so for feeling full at night without abusing your stomach and/or diet. Who'd have thought? So after a couple days of laying on the sofa, listening to jazz music and snarfing down rolled oats, my art drive suddenly returned, and I've spent the past four-odd days at my tablet cranking out piece after piece. Amazing what a few good nights of sleep, a somewhat more restrained stomach acid situation, and a nightly bowl of oatmeal will do.
Oatmeal. I still can't believe that was the remedy.
Where was I? Oh, right. I'm mostly better and more art's coming, hopefully. I don't know how long I'll be able to keep this current pace, but being able to finally play catch-up has been a blessing in and of itself. I may need to start considering paid work if I can refine my process enough to make my own time manageable, but we'll cross that bridge when we come to it.
Sheesh, you know you're approaching your middle age when you're gushing about how good oatmeal is for you.
Enjoy the rest of your autumn, folks.
EDIT: A few people were apparently worried about the three strikes through the icon. The concern's appreciated, but relax, it's just a tribute to Ace Combat.

Keep munching ya oats and relaxing till you're feeling 100%, alright?
Do you think it's just that you're getting more fiber in your diet that's helping you out, or is it the mineral content?
I wish I could say I'm joking here, but honestly, I've been experiencing some pretty hefty acid reflux and I'm kind of concerned that it's not a great idea to always be diving into the Pepcid every couple of days. I'm genuinely wondering.
Be sure to throw in some probiotics, nuts, and blueberries in there. Maintaining a good gut biome is important for people with stomach issues, and I know my father can tell you that you really want to throw your kidneys a bone every now and again.
I HATE THAT I'M TALKING LIKE AN ADULT HERE.
I ATE A BIT OF LEFTOVER HALLOWEEN CANDY JUST TO FEEL YOUNGER AGAIN.
But that said, I'm not sure exactly WHY. I do know that it's got good amounts of dietary fiber and- assuming you get rolled oats- you're basically eating whole grains. It may just be something so mild and absorbent (and relatively slow to digest, without taxing gastric juices the way proteins do) that it puts your stomach acids at ease somehow. I should look into it further.
As for contents, heck, I just stir in a big spoonful of strawberry jam and it's as good as you can ask for.
