Writers NEED comments.
Tell writers what you think, even if you hate it. Just thought I'd get my holiday greetings out of the way before heading for midnight mass. I wish all of you a Merry Christmas, Happy Hanukkah, happy Kwanzaa, or whatever it is you do or don't celebrate this time of year.
To all of you who DO celebrate Christmas, I have a question for you: what is your philosophy on tree decorating? I'm curious about your thoughts and how you go about it. Just comment below.
And again, Happy Holidays!

First up, I've seen some REALLY nice artificial trees in my day, but for my money, it has to be a real tree. The scent and texture are irreplaceable, and the extra work of caring for it makes it a deeper experience.
I think lights should be about half the decorations. A nice long string of small colored lights draped evenly across the tree. There can be some blinkers and some white, but the colors are more festive.
Next is the classic ball ornaments. They should be again evenly placed, but with plenty of room for later ornaments. The glossy ones should be placed to take advantage of the lights.
Finally, special ornaments. Everyone has a collection of personal ornaments or uniquely constructed ones. These should be placed where they can be most appreciated and where the direct and reflected tree lights accent them.
All in all, you should see as much of the tree as the ornaments. A nice even balance lends an air of harmony to the entire tree.
As far as Christmas trees go, my family has always bought artificial trees and we've never once seen a tree around this season. (It more of less has to deal with us not liking cleaning up the pine needles once the season is over as well not liking to have to buy one every year maybe.)
With decorations we go and buy a small amount of ornaments combined with hand-made ornaments and a few strands of garland and just wrap them around the tree.
we also set up a little snowy village under the tree, just to give it a little character and wonder. to me i find that cute and that's just all in all what my family does for decorations.
Opinion wise, i think it always depends on how decked-out you want your tree to look.
