General Updates: I quit my job
General
After over 3 years, I finally quit my job as a shipping clerk.
I was going nowhere, and being thrown under the thumb of a terrible manager did not help. This guy kept arguing with me over things he didn't even know, even when I could prove to him that he was wrong he would dig in and say that I (or my coworker) must have done something wrong. He doesn't even know basic Excel!
My coworker, who is replacing me, was chatting with tech support to figure out a problem with some orders that did not import. He wants to do this over the phone and starts looking through our old handbook for the number for tech support and gets pissed that he can't find it. He turns on me right after I get back from lunch:
"Where's the number for tech support"
"Just go to the question mark in the task bar and it will show you the number"
"But where is the [new program] handbook?" *waving the old binder in my face*
"We don't have one"
"We have to have one! Where is it?!"
"We do not have a handbook. Everything is on their website."
He throws the old binder back in the drawer next to my coworker and slams the drawer closed, making her jump. Meanwhile she had already got the number for the tech support! He refused to listen to her and instead tried to call our rep for the program, but couldn't get through because you have schedule a call with her!
He made it very easy to leave that job.
In the meantime, I am working through commissions and looking for new work. There's been some places looking for inventory clerks and such, so I am hopeful I will find a place where communication happens in a reasonable and adult fashion.
Also my shit grandparents did not write me a Christmas hate letter this year! YAY!!
Yeah, they used to just write me (and everyone else) a letter in December to wish me a Merry Christmas and detail how much they think my views/opinions are stupid and that I disappoint them in every way. I think they finally got the message that I don't want to be part of that family, so I am so happy to not have any more contact with them!

Good luck in any future interviews!
I thought I would be more apprehensive, but I am surprisingly hopeful. Knowing I'm not walking in to "somehow everything is my fault" on Monday is relaxing.
Thank you, I shall be enjoying it thoroughly!
I hope so! Another ex-coworker says he is making better money doing half of what he was asked to do at this place. Granted, this place is a small company, so all of us have to take on a lot (my tasks involved just about everything computer related, keeping track of inventory, claims, materials, shipping, and other random tasks).
good luck and much success with grabbing a brandnew and shiny job, and happy new year. ^^
My coworker is also looking at other work as she bears the worst of it.
Thank you! It looks like there is some good work out there for me, just a matter of how far I'm willing to drive for it.
oh yeah, the distances... here in germany some politicians want people to move nearer to their work places to save on CO2 and stuff, forgetting that there they either can't afford shit, or there is no living space at all... and that authorities often force people to drive long distances to new work places to begin with.
can we please have politicians who know how life works, for a change? (and no, I don't wanna open a discussion about you-know-what,, just saying. done ranting. :P )
Politicians don't live in the real world. They don't understand reality.
Like... why would I pay over a $1500 a month for a one bedroom in a shady part of town, when I can have a 3 bedroom town home in a nicer area for the same or less?
right?
or, when our minister for finances raised the tobacco tax, and started to already spend the money from it, but people widely cut down smoking or quit already, and the tax income was almost halved... as if taxes have never directed people's consummations.
etc, etc...
Currently refining my resume before I start applying.
We're going to make this decade way better than the last!
But hey, congrats on not getting hate mail! Sounds like there's a little less toxicity in your near future.
It's been great. After I started to realize just how awful certain family members are and how their behavior has affected my life negatively, I started to cut ties with them. These people have told me to stop using my last name publicly.
Sorry your grandparents are the way they are.
I hope so as well. I am very grateful that I am in a position right now where I can leave my job to look for something better.
Yes, bad managers can really ruin a working environment. My coworker had explained to this manager that the way he talks to her upsets her anxiety disorder, and he brushed it off with "well I'm a Marine that's how we are"... meanwhile all our other managers are also Marines and do not have this issue.
I'm just glad they stopped talking to me. They have tried to get me to stop using my legal last name on public platforms because they don't like my views.
Keep being you, i have respect for you going through this and keeping on... and a name has no ownership over your views.
The thing is, none of the other Marine managers have a problem communicating respectfully- the guy before him had a temper but never let it out on us, he just went to a corner of the warehouse to throw a box or something.
I even sent them scholarly articles about the most effective ways to get productivity out of employees, and all of them basically said that his intimidation tactics are the exact wrong way to go about it. He wouldn't listen to it. Hence, I left.
Thankfully, I am in a good position to rest a little while as I look for new employment. I look forward to possible future commissions from you, you always bring great ideas to the table.
Thank you!
