Well... ppl HATED what I drew myself 5-10y ago too... You just gotta keep at it, if thats your life calling.

That's... not at all what I was thinking about. I want people to acknowledge my art and consider it worth something and follow me because of the art I do, not for the characters i have. And I don't really want to keep paying for commission work since it feels like cheating myself out of creativity. IDK, i just feel disappointed with the way things are going. People adopt $100+ designs, have nothing on their profile, then you almost never see it again until you see it in a random commission from someone else months later.

I guess I am feeling animosity to a lot of art whores in a way, but I don't want to. Sorry.

No its okay, we all start somewhere. But there is no magic trick. Practice!
Also remember that worth is subjective, a little. :)

You know modseven? The artist is pretty good!
But you know what? I dont like his weird proportions and overly saturated colors, and the faces.
So not a fan of his. But thats fine, because its just a taste of mine. Just an example to remember.

Gjoot (a pheromosa on Twitter) has scrappish lines, often drawing sketches. But I like its style! <3
So big subjectivity in worth. Affinites... yeah! :)
