Writing plans, 2020
So, we're at the end of another year, and at the end of the decade to boot (some might argue the decade ends in 2021, but semantics).
For me, this year has been... weird. On the one hand, I've done very well in my classes, learning a lot and generally being very productive. On the other hand... I only wrote three or four major things this year, and while I did some doodles I'm proud of, overall my creative output felt extremely stagnant. I'm sure there's a correlation here somewhere. :y
Obviously, part of my lack of writing is because of the classes. Mainly the Japanese language courses I took, which were no joke; for anyone interested in taking such a course, keep in mind that they're probably very quick-paced and you're always going to get a decent amount of homework, regardless of whether you have one day before your next class or whether you have the weekend. I planned my semesters to focus around those courses (my other classes were more leisurely), and even then they were much tougher than I anticipated, which meant I was putting a lot of effort into not falling behind. Make no mistake, this year was tough - it almost felt tougher than when I was working retail, though I'm sure that my memories of working retail are a little fuzzy by now.
That said, I'm also willing to admit that the chapters that I did write this year were very... unengaging? Difficult to envison? It's hard to say. Chapter 9 was basically a lewdfic and it was easy, but Chapter 10 was hard to outline and even harder to write. Genuinely, I have no idea why; the idea of the team meeting up with Professor Kukui and discussing things with him while rounding the corner of the island was my idea from the start, but there were so many ideas I wanted to try and get across that, much like Chapter 6, I ultimately had to leave some things on the cutting room floor. Chapter 11, by comparison, was nearly as easy as Chapter 9 was, though it helps that I was able to loop the ideas I cut from Ch10 back into Ch11. Plus, introducing the whole "cultural nudity" thing will make it a lot easier to throw in all the lewd stuff I do have planned. :3p
Unfortunately, it also didn't help that, come summertime, I was in the midst of a pretty bad depression. It's nowhere near as bad as it was in 2016, but it was pretty bad, and there were a lot of things playing into it. Being left in charge of the house for a good month or two in-total, caring for our aging dog, my homework and school schedule making it very difficult to actually go on adventures and explore the islands (which is a big part of what made the first batch of Alola ke Ola chapters so much fun). Of course, once I headed into the second semester things started to clear up, and the fact that I was actually able to get out and do things here and there was quite the boon.
So what are the plans for 2020? Simple: do my best to fix the problems I had this year. In terms of depression, I've been taking medicine to help with that, and in terms of getting out of the house, now only do I have plans to go and do a lot right after New Years, I have ideas for both Chapters 12 and 13 from a trip I took up to the north shore back in autumn. So I plan on getting started as soon as the year turns over! I'd also like to get some more side-stories done, like the spa-themed lewdfic from a few months back. In particular I've been wanting to focus on fleshing out the apartment more, so I may be doing stuff with that between Alola ke Ola chapters.
Anyway, here's to a good year and a good start to the decade! :3
