Why Avocados Shouldn't Exist

The avocado is highly regarded by many people as delicious and nutritious, but the most extraordinary thing about avocados may be their very existence. 2.6 million years ago to 11,700 years ago animals with huge guts ate the avocados and distributed their seeds. When the huge animals went extinct the avocado should have also. But it did not. It is a fascinating story.

Im not sure what animal would be big enough to swallow an avocado seed whole and then poop it out the other end. I, for one, am happy that the critter doesnt roam around with up. It would probably eat us too.

Hummmm . . . giant ground sloth, mastodons, mammoths, short-faced bear. All not good characters to run into. If they did not eat you, they might step on you out of fear. OUCH.
