If you don't have a discord I'd recommend it! It's where most people flood these days~

I thought it was mostly for gaming, and I don't really have a gaming pc.

It's a chat that was originally for gamers,but it turned into lots of regular community groups, friend groups, and just for chatting with friends!

I agree with you that it originally started as a chat for gamers. At this point it has definitely spread to other communities. I know there are several different furry servers, D&D, just about anything you could think of within the rules of Discord. I think it's a good option and you can get the app on several different devices, it doesn't have to be a computer.

It was initially a replacement for TeamSpeak, so yeah. A chat for people playing games together.
But with so many more features and alot better performance it quickly left other things like Skype in the dirt.
The amount of freedom and customization is amazing for discord. I highly recommend it.

I checked out discord servers and it just seemed so overwhelming. No idea how to start with that.

Discord is definitely my preferred stomping ground these days, and when an artist I enjoy has a personal server set up for notifications and interaction, I tend to join in. Even if I'm not super active in said server, it tends to be an excellent source for information for commission openings, stream schedules, and general banter between like-minded people. That would be my recommendation, but do be wary of stretching yourself thin on social media outlets. Burnout is a very real risk, and it's important to take care of yourself. ♥

For what it's worth, it's a surprisingly simple system with a good bit of depth to it. Out of curiosity, do you have experience working with discord as a messaging client at all? If you know the basics, I could take some time to walk you through server setup sometime. To get something workable up and running would likely take less than an hour to accomplish, and it really doesn't need to be anything fancy.

I have used it only to voicechat a few times but if I probably need to make a new username if I want to use it seriously. heh

Possibly! I know you can change your discord name to whatever you'd like, but if you desire to keep an "IRL" and "Online" presence separate and distinct, that would likely be recommended.

Oh my. This is so true... Not the begging for free stuff part but the just begging over and over for RP's that are just pointless kinkfests. Glad someone put words to the thought!

Like many already typed, i reinforce - Discord is a good way.
Very large servers can overwelm you pretty fast, try to avoid very large servers where chat can become a bit chaotic. smaller servers are good!
So far i've been blessed (fortunate perhaps) to be in servers with VERY good people that one can chat with. i've always been pretty closed as well, used to just answerign questions or messages and then disappearing, in a way.

Baby steps on discord. things don't happen 1 day to another.
An example - join on discussions/convo and give your opinion or input and keep the convo going, it's usualy a good way to start things up. again, this is much dificult in large servers where the chat can become a bit chaotic with sometimes multiple people discussing diferent things.

A second tip i could give is to, for an example, join content creator discords. some people have their discord invite link public. Give it a try instead of joining completely random discords.

As everyone has been saying, discord server. Don't over think it either. If you don't know how to start up a discord server or it seems too complicated (it's a simple learning process really) then have someone else set it up for you and act as your go to tech moderator. Start simple and small, no need to get into complicated bots or rules or anything. Three roles (your administrative roll, any moderators, and finally the rest of the peeps) . You won't even need to worry about message filtering until you get more than twenty-thirty active people.

WHenever the discord server is getting too annoying, you can mute it, and unmute it when you want to catch up again.

You could set up your own group/server on discord and add people you want.
Basicaly creating your own social "world" there.

Most artists I know make a personal Discord server where they invite friends and fans into. It's a good way to share art, ask questions and make friends. If you need some help with setting up a server, I'd be glad to help you! I've made a few servers already, and it's quite easy once you get used to it.

I get that feeling, the thing is stepping out of your comfort zone is the first step and it does get easier. In fact, you've already stepped a mile just taking the time to write this. I'm here and I'm about on discord for chatting or hanging, whatever seems right, been a bit burned out for RP recently so if that's the hope I'll likely disappoint.

I know I'm kinda echoing everyone else here, but! Discord's a great resource for what you're looking for! While it's advertised as a gaming platform, the server system is really simple and convenient and easy to use for a lot of things! (Kinda like how Photoshop is for photo editing but everyone uses it for illustrations ;P ) It's pretty easy to learn, and it gives you some versatile tools for managing notifications by server and by channel so you don't feel bombarded by messages ^^
Making your own server is a pretty easy thing to set up and manage, and it'd be a good way to get people in for the specific things you're looking for! If you don't wanna start out moderating your own though, there are plenty of good servers out there to join~ As far as servers with furry vore artists and relatively personable chatter go, there's a few I'd recommend!  RenardFoxx has a pretty chill one that hosts Jackbox games fairly frequently!  NummyNumz also has a fairly big server, and I'm sure you could find people there~  meep's server is incredibly chill and friendly, though its size can be a tad daunting and you'd have to ask for an invite or wait for a public opening. And finally, for a little shameless self-advertisement, I run my own server too! It's a bit on the smaller side and not the most active, though the people there are certainly friendly and art gets posted often~

something a bit smaller where you can start events and inform your fans at a decently fast rate would also be Telegram, you can start an announcement channel where your fans can join and you only post things like events, streams and uploads and a large portion of the fandom currently use it.

but make sure you tinker with all your personal settings first before doing that if you are making a new account, you dont want to give people your phone number by accident.

I'd say another thing you can do is potentially joining the chats of other artists! I know many, like  sonsasu, have both a telegram and discord group chat, and most people enjoy multi streaming and potentially talking about stuff as they do so. Pop in, see if you like the crowd, and if you do, stick around and see how things go!

I'm not sure if I can help with drawing as I don't draw, or stream. Though if you're just looking for people to interact with or just chill I'm down. There's usually something entertaining to watch on YouTube in a watch2gether room, or just generally chat on telegram or discord.
It's also fun to bounce ideas around for stories or art related things which sadly I don't do very much anymore these days.

So many say Discord so I will atleast give it a try soon. Interacting and just hanging out seems alright, timezones are usually what ruins it. :/

It's pretty easy to get the hang of, really. You can even group servers from the server tab on the left into little folder like things so you don't have a huge list to scroll through. You can create group DMs as well with yourself and friends instead of just a server.

I dont want to be a broken record with these comments, but discord is great. I set one up for my fans recently and it goes quite well.

I can set up calls to play games or stream my work.

I can have specific chat rooms for art sharing or discussions.

People can ask me questions or see my current projects. It's really not too hard to set up. If you need help I'm sure lots of folks know a bunch about it. And I'd answer what I can o/

I think discord is your way to go! There are so many people who love your art and you want to get to know people it’s great for that! I’ve made lots of good people and friends on Discord recently and it has really opened my eyes to the community we have around us :) hmu Jerich07#2411

Opening a Discord is always a good way to interact with followers in a consistent manner. You can also actively choose when you do and don't interact with them.

Ye as other said discord is a fantastic place for communities and meeting people. Telegram is very easy and relaxed (plus stickers), but discord allows you to really categorize the threads within your server. I have my own art server, for instance. It's let me talk with clients but also just kinda hang out and share memes with people. ;b

I understand discord is a bit overwhelming at first. Perhaps ask if anyone would like to help you set up your server/if you know anyone you can trust. : o

Otherwise if you weren't aware of them there are a few semi-large artist-chats on telegram! These do have a few hundred people in them, but it can be a start to mingle. :)

As for streams if you ever need a multi-stream buddy I have premium so I can host on picarto! For the kind of content you draw that'd probably be the best website for you. Pretty sure twitch would throw a tantrum. >_<

And I think OpenCanvas was a program a lot of folks draw together on a shared file? I'll have to look into it again more. I used to use iscribble, but I got kinda fed up with its limitations (and I lost my original account so lost the perks with it X_x).

Try looking into making a discord channel Armorine, they're excellent ways to bring your following together to make a community! I'm sure people would be more than willing to come join you in one.

Live streaming works well, but only if you're very frequent with it as otherwise people will be less likely to join every time. Personally I think it's more of an event thing where you tell your friends and followers "hey I'm drawing, come hang!" Sorta thing? I dunno haha.

Regardless I'm sure you'll find the method that works for you, you're nice already from what I've seen~.

Yeah I will look into Discord and try and make it work. For live streaming or such, yeah more like event things but i'm not even sure I can get started with what I have so gonna need to look into that more too.

Twitter for me has been amazing for being able to get exposure/reach way beyond what FA offers, and for fun lighthearted back/forth interaction

Discord can be great for having a server and being able to talk with a bunch of people at the same time. Someone might ask how your day is going and you get to answer 100+ people at once rather than 100 people individually :P

Fellow artist, I struggle with the same thing. I know Discord is the place to go- but same thing with me- its a bit overwhelming. People live and breathe Discord but I find it very disorganized and annoying. Several years back I opened up Skype to anyone who was interested and while I enjoyed conversing when I was in the mood, it was very time consuming and I burned out almost instantly.
And while I do enjoy talking to fans, I want to specifically talk to other artists too. I like how much traffic FA gets but its not really an artist community. (Deviantart way way back in the day had a community and I miss it very much) Just wish there was something more passive than starting my own channel.
