R.I.P., Greg Giacobe (updated)
Update: just posted his photograph at https://www.furaffinity.net/view/35384102/
I knew Greg for decades. He was one of the first furs I met way back in the late 1980s when furs used to congregate at the monthly NYC anime screenings on St. Marks place. For years he, I and
speet were regular travelling companions to ConFurence, Philcon's furry track and then Anthrocon when it spun off from Philcon. He wasn't an artist but a hard-core furry fan.
Last year he discovered he had cancer and I'm ashamed to say I essentially lost touch with him, except for one phone call when I suggested we get together. He said he wasn't up for a trip from Bayonne to NYC but we could possibly meet in Jersey City across the river from Manhattan; that meet-up never happened.
A month or 3 ago I Emailed him to touch base, but never heard back. I started having a bad feeling a few weeks ago and this morning did a search on his name...

Greg passed away three days shy of his 60th birthday. It had been several years since our last joint trip to a con; even so, it felt good to know he was still out there and I mistakenly assumed we'd eventually get around to meeting up again. I don't want to end this journal with anything mawkish or cliche'd, but even though we'd fallen out of touch I will very much miss the guy.

He asked me waaaaay back in 2003 or 2004 if I was interested in going to Anthrocon. Like an idiot, I said no -- and in fact it wouldn't be until 2017 I finally attended, and Greg happened to be there as well, and he was a most reassuring presence during my first ever furcon.
That was the last time I saw Greg, but we exchanged e-mails just at the start of this year, when he hoped he was on the mend.
A sweet man. R.I.P.
i only met him once or twice. He was always a delightful guy to talk to.
