2020's not a good year for me...
It's nearly mid-April, but this year had already gotten off to a bad start for me. In addition to the social distancing and self isolation due to the so-called COVID-19 pandemic, we've had to deal with a number of bad times including a death in the family and my two-month long recovery from surgery.
A week or two before Christmas, my sister's falcon Thunder started to significantly slow down on eating. She and my father took him to the vet to get checked. At first we thought it was a sinus infection, so we gave him antibiotics, but it did very little to help him. Then the vet thought it was some form of avian herpes, but that was quickly proven unlikely. Finally by mid-January, Thunder had gotten so weak that he stopped eating all together, and we came to the conclusion that he had nasal cancer. It had gotten to the point that Thunder couldn't hold down any food let alone eat any. It was then we made the hardest decision we'd ever done. On the 20th, we said our last tearful goodbyes to Thunder before he was taken back to the vet to be put down. It's been two and a half months since he passed, and we still miss him a lot. But the important thing is that he's no longer suffering, and that he's still with us in our hearts and minds. We had so many happy times with Thunder in his twelve years in the family.
The day after Thunder was put down, I was admitted to the hospital to have surgery performed on me to have a pilonidal cyst removed. The surgery went well and I spent the whole recovery session at home. During that time, I had one or two episodes of depression, but overall I've recovered enough to be given the all-clear by the head nurse. All that's left is to have a follow-up visit with the surgeon, but it could be a while before I go see him, given the whole COVID-19 crisis going on.
If anyone wants to hear more about Thunder, I'll be happy to tell you. However, I will not be posting any pictures of Thunder online as my sister is under contract by a photographer friend of ours not to distribute any pictures to anyone outside of the immediate family. Please respect my family's wishes as well as mine to keep our photos of Thunder private. Thank you.
