Art Inspiration.
- Stephen King.
- Disney movies. Zootopia's designs in particular and the little details like how they give Bellwether a woolen outfit and also made her smaller in contrast to much bigger animal characters.
- Pixar and Dreamworks.
- Don Bluth movies.
- H.P Lovecraft.
- David Cronenberg. I have a fascination for Body Horror movies and plan on doing a list of favorite Body Horror movies sometime and the majority of my work tends to take more than a little bit of inspiration from Cronenberg's movies, in particular The Fly and Videodrome along with Scanners.
- Transformation Art and Stories. Before I joined Deviantart I used to be known primarily as a would-be-song parodist on AmiRight (but I got banned from there because I got a little bit too pissed off at the admin, I forgot his last name but he has the same name as a certain evil doll. The only reason why I got mad at the admins was because they didn't take down a song parody that upset me. Specifically it was one about Jay Leno and it was made as a Take That to my work on there which was usually about Leno. *sarcastically* Oh yeah sure...the werecreature thing is perfectly fine for me but it's the fact I like Leno that made them think I was weird? Oh, it didn't help that this was during the NBC debacle and Leno was being unjustly viewed as a bad guy because of him coming back to the host The Tonight Show after Conan's short run didn't go well, it's bad enough that Team CoCo view him as a monster, it was made even worse by this user and their so called parody which portrayed him as a paranoid freak who apparently doesn't like the fact I'm a fan of his. Yeeeah, i'm sure Leno HAS a sense of humor about himself.) and also as a sometimes member of Metamorphose.org (a transformation website) - although I do admit that I didn't get along well with anyone on the message boards for that site and I did come up with a few fake message boards and posts like for example a Big Wolf On Campus feature film and a commercial where someone turns into a Grinch. Although the recent entries I submitted on there are actual entries and not ones I made up for the heck of it, but I used to go on a few transformation forums and look up stories on the site Doc's Lab. I didn't get along well with anyone on the forums (then again I never get along well with anyone on forum's, heck my experience of being trolled by people on a certain forum is proof of that alone..I just don't like how some forum admins tend to be corrupt or complete assholes and it influences the members of the forum, I didn't even want to join that forum but I got talked into it by one of the members) and well...my ideas were laughed at. But really the one about a Doctor Seuss character transformation is the one that they laughed at and thought was too childish? Yeah, i'm sorry for sticking to mainly g-rated material and everything but here's the thing...The Grinch is my favorite Jim Carrey movie to the point that I have more than one copy of it. Yeah, I have the books and even played the PS1 game at one point. And while the character that got transformed does have a few traits that make him a tad Gary Stu-ish, I fixed that up in my remake of that story (which you can see on here). But the point is, if it wasn't for those sites and ones on the Transfur site, I wouldn't have gotten into the subject of transformations myself.
- Music of any kind...specifically classic rock and of course Michael Jackson and Meat-Loaf as well as David Bowie.
- Bojack Horseman. I love the way anthro animals are designed in this show, they have humanoid bodies and wear clothing and they don't have any hooves/paws/other appendages of the animal they are based on so they have hands and feet, I think I like this type of anthro animal more than the type that actually just has paw-like hands or feet to be honest. Plus, the designs are appealing to me because they don't need to resemble the actual animal they are based on all that much, just look like them in a few ways while still being humanoid. The fish-people in particular from the episode Fish Out Of Water have a look that to them that is extremely intriguing, the seahorse dad is my favourite example (also that book 'What To Expect When You're A Male Seahorse Expecting') and the babies...I wish there were plush toys of these creatures, oh and of Child Bojack as well.
- Biker Mice From Mars (1993 version). Being that this came out in the early 90's this was part of a trend that was started by TMNT and that trend was the 'Superhero anthro animal' trend. The art design of the 93 series influenced me quite a lot, well that and the art style of Gargoyles. In fact I have several BMFM OCs that I created, most of them were either mice or rats but my specialty ones are plutarkians. When I picture what a human/fish hybrid looks like I always go with the plutarkians rather than something like anthro sharks who look like they're entering a Mr Universe competition, I go with plutarkians and Abe Sapien when it comes to picturing what a human/fish hybrid would look like and also the Asset from Shape Of Water.
- World Of Warcraft. There are very few video game art styles that I actually like...Skylanders always looks ugly to me in terms of its character designs (Spyro for example looks like somebody flattened him) and also the characters to me resemble rejected Pokemon designs or rejected ideas for Small Soldiers characters and well...I don't entirely like Skyrim's style or Fire Emblem's. World Of Warcraft on the other hand is my definitive favorite game with some quite well done character models for each race, each race has their unique gestures and animations. The Worgen look extremely fierce in their transformed state (female Worgen look fierce but at the same time cuddly), the Tauren look really impressive and noble, and the Pandaren are just so cuddly and adorable that you could hug them (the males are of course suitably pudgy). I have a number of characters that I created using the character creator thing in the game.
- Grimm.
- Horror movies. Horror movie transformations are my favorite kind and it is a shame there aren't many transformations into horror movie characters, internet age horror characters don't technically count and that's why I don't do transformations into characters like Slenderman or Jeff The Killer. Besides...why go for Slenderman when you can have the Dijinn from Wishmaster as the character to turn into? Horror movies and horror in general are my inspiration, even the really bad ones inspire me in some way. When I do a certain type of monster I usually have it in the style of a certain horror movie or show. When I do werewolves I am more comfortable with doing the Teen Wolf movie style werewolf (even though those movies are comedies) or a Big Wolf On Campus style one, I steer away from clowns or clown type transformations but if I do them I usually use Pennywise (both versions) or the ones from Killer Klowns From Outer Space (when i 'm not using Joker as an inspiration), for vampires I go for 80's or 90's style vampires like in Fright Night (1985), The Lost Boys, Buffyverse, Lair Of The White Worm, Bram Stoker's Dracula, Vamp, Bordello Of Blood, From Dusk Till Dawn, Vampire In Brooklyn, and if I want go with a more sophisticated vampire I go with The Hunger or The Addiction. I sometimes go with Underworld type vampires too. When I do cat-creatures I always go with Cat People (1982) or Sleepwalkers or the Thriller music video (that is when it's not Felicia from Darkstalkers being used as inspiration or April O Neil as a werecat, or anthro cat Selina Kyle) and when I do undead or sort of demonic creatures I go for Chuds or Deadites as inspiration (wish there were more TFs into those two species, i've seen a ton of Killer Klown TF fanart, I wish there were more Chuds and Deadites)
- Heromachine. I'm terrible at drawing on paper or even writing on paper and I admit that a lot of my earlier works and photomanips were terrible, and I don't blame the DA admins for hounding me back on my Drmusic2-1 account, because I didn't know what to do back then and wasn't aware of the rules. Hence why I used to do photomanips based of 'copyrighted' images like for example transforming Carmen Electra into Demona from Gargoyles or transforming her into a grinch-woman or She-Hulk, I didn't know better. And a lot of my earlier stories sucked too, especially the earlier Tales From The Web stories. I find that it's a lot easier to do it on a PC via a program or by typing it up then actually writing it, and that's why I use programs like IMVU to create characters and also sites with character creators like the ones for the Simpsons and South Park as well as my personal favorite Heromachine. A lot of my original hero and villain character designs were made on there. And in case you're asking..'Why don't you just ask someone for a commission?', the problem is I can't because I suck at that too. Basically the thing I suck at about them is that you have to pay for them and while I am not someone who is poor, I don't have enough money or anything like that for commissions at all, that's why one person I commissioned complained when I didn't give them the money they needed (yeeeah, but it wasn't exactly my fault. I was only talked into doing that art piece by a troll and I didn't know what to do since as I have mentioned, I suck at drawing. I mean how I am supposed to draw a Were-version of the Robert Patrick Terminator in a Pixar-like style? And how was I supposed to draw a picture of a monster based on a Japanese director that's also part cyborg and has multiple legs and a camera for an eye?) and it's also the reason why I don't do any videos on my Youtube channel (i'm self conscious of my looks and my voice). Besides, unless you're some kind of weening loser internet troll wannabe with very little understand of the actual rules of the site (no insert-name-of-internet-troll-wannabe-here, it is NOT against the rules to post art made on sites like Heromachine), it is fine to post pictures you made on Heromachine or IMVU pictures as long as it is in scraps and there isn't anything in the DA rules that says fan-art is illegal.
- Character interpretations. The example I picked is from a series on DA called PCA which is pretty much a series of anthropomorphic Pokemon, I like this kind of thing to be honest and I like doing Pokemon transformations that are into anthro or half humanized Pokemon rather than non-morphic. This particular series is one I can honestly see being made into a tv show or even a web-series (i'd watch it). And I use a lot of inspiration from that in my work as well, I like doing different depictions of characters.
- Abandoned theme parks, locations in general and ghost towns. The former can be creepy especially when you look at them and also sad...seeing something like that gives you a feeling of dread but also makes you feel a little bit depressed, and it seems like the perfect location to set a horror movie in. I also use places like for this for inspiration as well as theme parks like Alton Towers and Walt Disney World (including Euro Disney) and of course I use the Haunted Mansion or Phantom Manor as inspiration as well. I'd honestly like to see a game that takes part in those type of places, or a horror game that takes place in Centralia...well.. I suppose there is Silent Hill if we're talking movies.
- Clive Barker.
- Tim Burton. His style is unique and while it tends to be dark and a little bit creepy to some, it's fascinating. And another angle of his work I like is how he makes deformed/outcast characters sympathetic, like for example the Penguin from Batman Returns, Edward from Edward Scissorhands. I've seen stories where Gaston from Beauty And The Beast was portrayed in a sympathetic manner and of course I tend to do the same too with my depictions of King Sombra (there is a King Sombra blog on Tumblr), Queen Chrysalis, The Hessian, and Dawn Bellwether. Burton's style has influenced me quite a bit you might say.
