Some people can't really handle stress, and sometimes you get targeted for making furry things. It happens, it sucks, but at the end of the day, you have thousands of people who love it compaired to the one guy in his mums basement being a troll.

that too. i mean, people who want to hate you will MAKE a reason to hate you. and letting them dictate your actions, giving up something you like, for them? because they were mean? well, that's rude to you AND your fans. why give the bully what they want? why hurt yourself for someone who just wants you to hurt?

I may only colour, and not draw, but I have told my family about this, in a very general sense. But I have not shown any of my work, and some of it is even SFW. It's not just the porn, but it's furry stuff in general that I wouldn't even want to try to explain to them.

You make some very good points, many that I too share and often have to stop and at least consider all potential reasons; for one, specific, friend right now, I think they've simply found themselves in a pernicious situation which has led them to question if they should continue making this kind of art, ultimately it is his decision but I am no less sad that it is a real possibility that he may leave the fandom; as others have done in the past.

i just don't get how drawing furry art could be dangerous.

I can think of one situation where drawing furry art could be dangerous. If you live in a communal area, such as sharing a dorm room with others (that you didn't get to choose) or on a military vessel like I had to, then drawing it quickly identifies you as a furry. Some see furries as this awkward/weird/strange sub-culture, like geeks, nerds, dweebs, etc. These people (assuming they are not furries themselves) will associate you with anything and everything they recognize as furry. Suddenly you're the type of person that fantasizes about sex with animals, having sex in fursuits, running around a hotel in nothing but a diaper and a furry tail. They take all these things they've seen and they start questioning you about it, asking if you do it, why some people do it, and so on. That's fine, but then they go one step further and generalize, saying ALL furries do these things, and by extension YOU do these things and just refuse to admit to it. So then they're teasing you and humiliating you for things that you've never done. Sure, you can ignore one or two people telling lies to you that you don't give a fuck about, but then they start telling others. Then you have extremists coming at you, trying to beat you up because you had sex with a dog, when all you did was draw a SFW anthro fox.

People over-generalize and assume that one furry does everything that has been attributed to furries, and some people feel the need to aggressively ensure that everyone conforms to their personal morals. Enough harassment will make you want to bury all evidence that you're connected to something that other people hate just so that these meddling assholes will leave you alone. Basically, you're just redirecting the pain from external (people harassing you) to internal (suppressing part of your personality).

TLDR: Not everyone can stand up to the bullies and win. Some have to run and hide to survive.

i suppose that's true, but isn't that why we use pseudonyms? our real names aren't attached to our fursonas. plus, if someone were to find out about it, i don't think just not doing it anymore would make them forget... but i understand not wanting it to happen again. (but back to first statement of just don't put your real name/face on your fa)

I agree that they won't forget once they figure it out. The trick there is to avoid them finding out. Pseudonyms help you to hide it, but it's hard to hide what you're doing when you're in close quarters and it can be very stressful to keep looking over your shoulder to make sure nobody is watching what you're doing. If you've got your own home where you can be alone while working on your furry art, then I honestly don't see a reason why you should let the bullies stop you, especially if you're using a pseudonym.

i'd much rather only be a furry in certain areas than try to stop being a furry at all
