The world is a weird place right now. Never before have we had a period of such long lasting peace. The people that have died in war is way down than in previous eras. People can travel all around the world with relative ease and experience many cultures. Despite all of this, there's this strange notion that everything is in an awful state. That the KKK is still running around committing murder and getting away with it. People literally crave this kind of hatred. They want a big scary enemy to yell and scream at like they're enacting their own personal 2 minute hate straight out of Nineteen-Eighty-Four.

The demand for hatred exceeds the supply.

In this absurd demand for a world full of evil to fight, people are taking offense at the smallest of things. Stirring up drama, gnashing teeth, burning bridges, and worse of all, engaging in rampant censorship. This censorship is making it harder to see that the world has never been better. It's fostering echo chambers where people get to engage in their yelling at invented enemies until they're worked up into a frenzy that commits the very kind of mob violence they condemn. People need to wake up from their fever dream that there are nazis hiding behind every corner. Witch hunting might feel good, but it causes real harm.

The mainstream media is culpable for this crazy environment. There is no ratings in telling everyone that everything is fine, that the world has never been better. That violent crime is down. They have to take stories and sensationalize them until everyone is hooked on every tiny update. That's how they make money.

We need to ease up and not be so quick to accuse others of hatred. The whole furry community exists as a way to celebrate differences. If you're a fox, a cat, a bunny, a wolf or whatever, we can still come together and get along.
