Background
Hank Hawkshire is an autistic Red-Tailed Hawk that has a different way of viewing the world with his interests and feelings that are unfamiliar from other mammal’s perspectives. He has moved into the grand city of Zootopia where anyone can be anything, to start a new life on his own, wanting to prove himself that he can live out on his own in a big, bustling city with more than 5 ecosystems. But it’s not the only thing that Hank wants to prove. Hank’s goal is to make Zootopia a better place for autistic mammals, as well as for whom have other disabilities, showing everybody that he’s not just a social outcast who’s only there to be constantly stereotyped, but being a strong, independent individual that’ll tell mammals to better understand what autistic people are like, tolerate them respectfully with patient lessons on social skills, coping techniques, and better understanding. With a healthy amount of what they have learned about those autistic individuals, they will finally accept Hank and all other people on the spectrum for what unique qualities they have that make them truly special. Hank has a peculiar speaking pattern that often makes him misinterpret what he’s saying about, at times he would say something that would sound out of place, making his peers confused and feel uncomfortably awkward. He has a fixated passion for automobiles as his knowledge of the makes, models, years, generations, engines, and drivetrains are impeccable, as he loves driving them to places that he has never been to before, and has a passionate joy of modding and tuning them to unleash their maximum potential. He has extensive knowledge of driving as he follows all the traffic laws and safety rules, which shows how clean his driving records are. Hank also wants to compete in motorsports so he would live up to his self proclaimed nickname dubbed “Streethawk”, as he has intellect on racing as he knows how they start, what rules they have, knows about class restrictions, and has learned a lot of racing techniques that Hank will use to his advantage, due to the long history of racing games he played. Being a bird, Hank also can fly as his flying skills have been improving, but there are still times where he's out of practice. Once Hank got his driver's license, he drove more than he flew as he thought that a lot of birds that often fly don't see the real fun of driving, unaware of what they're missing out on the road. He’s also very bright on electronics as he knows how to use them properly and keep them well maintained, putting em’ in good use no matter if they are old & new. Hank enjoys the outdoors as he likes basking into the wilderness, taking in the atmosphere with the clean air and luscious views from up top mountains, giving him much needed peace, quiet, and solitude to collect himself from all the terrible events going on in the world. He also has a peculiar interest in fashion as he likes seeing female mammals in classy, elegant outfits that makes them stand out from the crowd, as well as cosplay as he always wanted to dress up in costumes of his favorite cartoon, anime, and video game characters, especially ones who adorn capes/cloaks in which Hank would like to wear for formal events and cosplay outfits for comic cons. Among the many skills that Hank wants to improve on is his social skills as he is very self-conscious about his troubles of approaching new mammals that Hank stumbles to interact with as his antisocial behavior often comes full circle, not talking with said mammals at all, unable of letting them have a chance of getting to know him, and mostly spending his free time all alone. Hank lacks a lot of confidence & self-esteem, as well as a lot of fears and insecurities that hold him back from making new friends, and pessimistic of them ever liking him. The kinds of mammals that Hank wants to befriend are birds, foxes, bunnies, huskies, wolves, red pandas, deer, bats, and even dragons as they are his favorite species of animals that he wants to be around with. Hank wants to be supported and treated with the mammals he likes with this kind of treatment: Hank will first introduce himself to his peers, being himself with talking about his special interests in great detail that'll give his peers a good idea of what they can do to accommodate to Hank's interests. Then, Hank will be very open about his social anxiety on how he struggles a lot from interacting with new mammals, not having the confidence in himself to spend time with them, constantly overthinking and worrying that they're not gonna be fond of his introverted personality, and being pushed over for not stacking up to the standards of their expectations. When he needs emotional support, Hank wants to be treated with kindness and respect, being brought into a positive environment, and not being pressured to act normally as it doesn't mesh well with him. He likes getting love and affection when he's feeling low and melancholy as Hank is comfortable with letting mammals that he trusts to give him some cuddles and hugs to ease his pain and anxiety, preferably he wants affection from the specific mammals that Hank likes as he is more comfortable & relaxed with them, giving him support to loosen the tension of his anxiety. Hank enjoys getting his back, shoulders, and head stroked, massaging the sore muscles that make it a lot better than medicine. And when some mammals wear a cape/cloak, Hank would like to be snuggled in it like a blanket, keeping him nice and warm. He also likes getting his feathery chin scratched as Hank would make some happy squeaks and peeps as it feels more like he's being tickled, considering that he's ticklish. And when it comes to fantasy animals like dragons and griffins, Hank would like to be cuddled and hugged in their wings and being draped under them like again, a blanket. There are certain moments when the environment around Hank is too loud and overwhelming for him to take, he would find a quiet and vacant place where Hank can collect himself and find something to do on his own.
Even though Hank has a lot of great attributes with his special interests and needs, but he has a very rough past of being singled out for his social missteps, the mammals around him not recognizing his disability, losing his beloved family members, and suffering from anxiety, depression, depersonalization, & PTSD as Hank was an emotionally troubled hawk with a lot of psychological trauma and self-loathing. He had stumbled figuring out social cues, how to approach people, setting social boundaries for himself, and keeping relationships in balance. Because of his ASD, Hank’s way of socializing with his peers is often docile & quiet, not saying a whole lot much as he thinks he doesn’t have any interesting things he wants to talk about, having any jokes that are funny and sensible, and when he does start talking, his speaking pattern gets jumbled up in off-putting voice tones, confusing sentence structures, and showing his lack of verbal communication skills, it even happens when he’s trying to chat with people online too. Hank still wanted to make new friends, but the problem is that he doesn’t know how to make them, and approach them with proper social norms that his peers expect him to have. Whenever he sees his peers that he admires, bonding with each other, having funny conversations, valuing their friendship, getting praise for their hard work, traveling to events and places, he wished that he would have those kinds of friends that care and support him in his time of need and accept him for what he truly is, regardless of his disability. When he did attempt to befriend those popular peers that he admired, Hank’s results weren’t as pleasant as he had hoped, as he was ostracised for his poor communication skills and his inability to set social boundaries, and rejected him. It ended up resulting in Hank to have a meltdown as he cried all the way home, and isolated himself in his room, feeling like he is unable to socialize with anybody he tries to approach and talk to anymore, thinking that everything he says just comes out very wrong and catastrophic that’ll turn away a lot of his kind from him, acting like that Hank never existed, and canceling him out, further damaging his self-worth, hope, and confidence, and he never got the chance to tell them that he was Autistic, and it’s how the way he acts. When every time Hank makes a big mistake or says something that irritates his family & friends, he buries himself for what he did wrong, berating himself up for being idiotic, and shuts down, not saying a word to anyone and isolates himself in solitude, and not enjoying the activities that he used to like doing, and it shows his very sensitive feelings. Because of it, he was very lonely, he kept his beak shut from everybody around him, not wanting to speak or interact with anybody because he’s afraid of doing it all wrong, repeating his mistakes, not having a lot of support, and feeling like a burden to everyone and being better off without him. His confidence and self-esteem were at an all-time low as he 2nd-guessed himself a lot that he can achieve his goals and show them what he's made of. When Hank gets nervous, his body starts to shake badly, sweat pouring down profusely, feathers molting, his mind going numb, and is on the verge of tears with his beak quivering, resulting in Hank having a sensory overload as he would retreat to a quiet and deserted place where he hides his emotions, and sits all alone by himself, not wanting to make his peers feel uncomfortable around him. Throughout most of that time, Hank hasn't made any new friends since the ones he knew from school have moved away to college, and got jobs of their own, leaving Hank deserted with no mutual support, and never had any time to spend with them, making his loneliness very apparent. He did most of his hobbies and responsibilities on his own with optional assistance from his family as he worked extensively hard providing them. And since the small city he lived in isn’t aware of Hank’s disability, he often had to keep it under wraps and often felt like a misfit that isn’t gonna fit in with society. And if his depression couldn’t get any worse, his mother who he has grown up with for 20 years had passed away from pancreatitis as she has been suffering from health issues for so long that it eventually led to her passing. And it isn’t it the only member of Hank’s family that he sadly lost, his grandfather that he often called “Grampy” passed away the month before Hank’s mother’s death, he contracted asbestos while on vacation, and his health suffered within a year to the point that he isn’t gonna live for very long. Hank was devastated that he lost his beloved Mom and Grandfather at an early point of his young adult life as he and his family mourned their loss, shedding tears as their voices cracked of their loved one’s loss. It further worsened Hank’s mental health as he was losing hope that things will ever get better for him, and getting grip on his dreams. He has been wanting to move to Zootopia, where he had felt like that whole big city will treat him with more respect, get a much better look at his personality, helping him get the social and independent living skills he needs, healing his mental health, and accept him for his true self that separates Hank from all the rest.

Goal
To raise awareness for autism acceptance, further exploring what real autistic people are like, what challenges they face, and allowing everyone to get a good idea of how they will approach and treat people on the spectrum after what they learned and understood about them. It would give people on the spectrum a lot of deserving love, respect, acceptance, and reassurance that a lot of disabled people need, and relate to them of what problems and interests that we all connect to. This short will also pay a loving tribute to my Mom and Grandfather who I have tragically lost this year, as this featurette will feature my Mom and Grampy in their anthro bird forms, showing the great time's Hank shared with them until the very last moments of their lives with their younger son. It’ll help my family get through our devastating times of mourning the loss of Mom and Grampy, once they see this short, they’ll be gifted with hope and reassurance that things will get better, and never forget the shining moments of our beloved Mother & Grandfather, as their memory will never be forgotten, and the audience will send their deepest condolences to me and my family that’ll restore our faith and hope in this world. This short will directly tackle the issues that most autistic people face, so that way the audience can understand, and relate to what they go through in their lives, struggling to understand social norms, coping with their meltdowns and shutdowns, and their wishes to find acceptance of their wellbeing. This will be the short film that’ll be representing Autism Acceptance, it will be marketed either worldwide or nationwide, promoting the opinion that autistic people are still human to share their thoughts and feelings that should be considered for better understanding and healing for those who have been through a lot of rough times. It will be supporting ASAN (Autistic Self Advocacy Network).

“You don't know what it’s like living with a disability. No matter how hard I try to socialize with mammals that I want to be around with so I would feel included & welcomed, socializing with each other, and making new friends, but I fail miserably! I’m alone all too much that I have no one to tend me in my lowest times, leaving me helpless and abandoned! I'm such a worthless burden that my lousiness will turn everyone away! *sobs* It hurts so much!! *sobs*" - Hank Hawkshire
“*deeps breath* I have been keeping this bottled up in my head for long enough, once until I gained the confidence of telling this to someone that I trust with very high regard, and you two are those very ones. *deep breath* I have a disability that makes me function very differently from all the other mammals, my hobbies and needs stray far away from what they normally thrive on doing, It's been a part of me, and it redefines me of who I am deep down inside that makes me exceptional. I was diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder. I got diagnosed with Autism when I was a baby chick and I didn't even know I had autism until I found out years later. Everything that I have been telling about myself to you two is all part of my disability, from my obsession for automobiles, meeting & bonding with new mammals, my good taste in clothing, and struggling endlessly with my anxiety and my traumatizing past being the root of all that, all of them are connected to it. I want to show that I have a lot of incredible abilities that thrust me into perfecting my art of the things I love most and trying really hard to overcome my anxiety so everyone can admire and understand me when I ruffle my true colors. But sadly, no matter how hard I try to show my true self, I constantly end up getting the short end of the stick, perpetually misconceived & rejected, with mammals endlessly ridiculing me about my anti-social behavior! Calling me so many hurtful things that make me break down and wallow! *sniff* When every time I see people enjoying their lives, socializing with their friends, and having boatloads of fun, I always wished I could be a part of that. But my social skills just aren't up to par, I don't have any of the luxuries that those mammals & birds have, and I lack the confidence of giving certain new things a shot. While those enjoy having fun with their activities, I'm left sitting alone with a dark cloud looming above me, like a bench-warming sitting duck who is disabled, broke, lonely, and riddled with so much pain & trauma that I feel completely worthless. They're better off being without a gutless burden, like me." - Hank Hawkshire
