Art Stealing
It's been well over a year since I last made a journal and due to some recent events I guess I felt like it was time.
The subject that is most prevalent is art stealing. Recently, I found numerous artwork I had gotten from artists uploaded to YouTube, most of them lacking any credit towards the artists that put so much time and effort into the pieces, and most of them being pieces I had gotten from
Stickmanwww. With the instances I could find, I either contacted the uploader to get them removed or issued a take-down notice through YouTube. Perhaps I was overreacting to a problem or non-problem that I can not really fight against, but much of the artwork I get has some significance to me. Maybe I should feel flattered that people shared my interests, but I am pretty sure they were taking from the artists in question instead of me, since I am not exactly anything special. And even if they were just taking from me, they are regardless also taking from the artists who put so much hard work into the art and thus deserve to be credited and informed that their hard work is being distributed in a way that they didn't intend. Maybe it is dumb to say this, but please don't upload art without asking the artist or commissioner first, and if they want their stuff on a site like YouTube, they'd probably upload it themselves.
I guess the situation irked me, moreso that there were even a few that monetized off of the taken artwork, and some of the artists I have seen taken from I consider to be friends so even though I couldn't really do anything about their stuff being taken I still felt somewhat defensive and angry. Putting something like "The art is not mine" at the beginning of the video does not qualify as crediting nor permission.
Um, if anyone has any opinions I wouldn't mind hearing.... I apologize if this seems like a self righteous rant...
TLDR: Please don't take and upload artwork without people's permission. And in the case of my art, I will issue take-downs from now on.
