[Crucial] I need your opinion on taking story commissions

Attention, private! Commander Avalanche says... I need money, badly. I've never done commissions before, but I wanna try them. My art isn't very good yet, so for now I'll try to do stories. I was thinking of taking 0.02-0.03$ per word, but I think I'm not good enough to ask for so much. Having read my stories (only 2 of them so far) - do you think these prices are reasonable? Or should I try something else?
I've received some comments from friends that I do too much setup and there isn't much place left for actual juicy content. Should I try and write short stories focused entirely on juicy stuff? Or are those stories fine as is for now?
