people were losing their shit when a potential treatment was being proposed to be put into clinical testing. A big thing was about the whole "UNTESTED DRUGS COULD KIIILLLLLLL PEOPLE! WE CAN'T USE UNTESTED DRUGS" farce (willfully ignoring the phrase "clinical trials").
Yet, everyone jumped onto the bandwagon of LOCKDOWN, STAYHOME, STAYSAFE ... and if anyone applied the rationale of "cure v disease" they were labeled as heartless bastards who should be publicly arrested for their crimes against public health.

LA Times reported that the economic toll of the pandemic could create more deaths than the disease.

naturally, being the LA Times, they stuck their head up their own ass and blamed it on RACISM ... because that's the answer to everything.

However, since it's the LA Times saying that an economic downturn could cause more deaths and suffering than the pandemic ... and not a conservative ... that means we can legally discuss it without having to admit conservatives may have been rational about this situation!!
So let's do that.
First... reality check.
Q) Why is there an economic downturn?
A) It's because Dr Fauci and the rest of the esteemed medical professionals proposed this as a way to prevent more deaths ... in other words it was a treatment (cure) for the pandemic (disease)
You cannot possibly draw a more direct line of causation. "Medical professionals" whose opinions should not be questioned, praise the father/son/holyghost of science, gave the recommendation for the lockdown. Fauci, in a heartwrenching dramatic interview that people have quoted to me because it touched their little simple hearts, basically lamented he didn't lock down fast enough.

So if anyone says that the lockdown somehow ISN'T the fault of the doctors .. or if they try to pan the downturn on something besides the lockdown ... this is just a cover your ass lie so that they don't look like an idiot. Because appearances are more important than actions.
Anyhoo
The cure (lockdown) is likely to cause more deaths (through resultant economic downturn) than the disease (the pandemic).
That's it, really. When you take a medicine that's killing you faster than the disease - you stop taking the medicine.

ADDENDUM A
Remember how everyone said "HOLY SHIT, THOSE STATES THAT ARE GOING TO OPEN UP ARE JUST GOING TO KILL ALL THEIR CITIZENS!! THEY'RE GREEDY! THAT'S WHY!! AND I'M A SAINT BECAUSE I'M NOT GREEDY!!!"
Utah opened reasonably early. There hasn't been a significant upwards spike. And we're continuing to open up.
That trend is pretty consistent. The other states haven't seen a horrific upwards spike of cases.
So ... that basically means "the second spike" line of thought turned out to be bullshit.
The lack of a second spike after coming out of lockdown also calls into question the following: DID THE LOCKDOWN PREVENT ANYTHING? ... the line of thought's simple: if there's not a statistically significant pandemic spike after a state opens, then that means it's the same rate as during lockdown. If there's no change between lockdown and no-lockdown (a statistically significant measure, mind you) ... then the lockdown was useless.

Go to google and type "60% death rate nursing home corona"
What you'll find is multiple articles across the nation where it states that nursing homes were hit the hardest from the pandemic. Usually spiking upwards of nursing home deaths accounting for 60% of the total deaths.

Now wait a second, nursing home patients weren't really going out to begin with, it's doubtful they were breaking quarantine.

And aren't people clamoring for their blessed state governments to protect them from this pandemic? Why is one of the easiest locations to keep a quarantine active failing so badly?

so if that directive that required NY resting homes to take patients didn't exist, then that would take a drastic portion of Covid deaths out of the total.
Given that resting home deaths accounted for 60% of the total... you get the idea. The pandemic is not THAT deadly, the government is.

Applying the above ratio, it's reasonable to assume that if he has the corona virus, there's an 80% chance he would have fallen into the asymptomatic camp ... had it not been for the fact that he was a lifetime smoker. However, since he had the corona virus, it would be reported as a corona death and not a lung cancer death.
