How About That Local Sports Team?
Oh right, there is no sports right now because coronavirus. Leastways, not in America.
I haven't said anything about this situation. Nothing about COVID, nothing about the protests, nothing. Hell, I've only recently started using my Twitter account again, so if y'all are wondering where in the hell this is coming from, consider it me being, I guess, less realistic about my profile. I have a platform. It is tiny, and even though it seems like I'm shouting into the void whenever I do something like this, I'm going to say something because I just cannot stay silent anymore.
To anybody who knows even a tiny bit about me, this will be very obvious as to where I stand. But I just want to clarify: If you are an American citizen and you voted in the last presidential election for Trump, I can kinda understand it. After all, Clinton was demonized by the right and the left, plus she had the unmitigated gall to be a woman, plus she had a history. And there are some folks that are so, so willing to use that history against someone when it becomes convenient. In addition, if you ignored the race-baiting, the flagrant incuriosity, the sexual assault allegations, the lack of empathy, and maybe a few other things that I'm forgetting right now, Trump seemed like an okay guy, probably better than that bitch Hilary, and he was from outside the government, which is totally a good point for one of the most difficult jobs in the country and probably one of the most difficult jobs in government. He'll learn on the job! The office will change him! So on and so forth.
Sorry, I'm tired. I'll try to be less sarcastic from here forward but no promises.
Point is, if you voted for Trump in 2016 and are hesitating on pulling the lever for him again, please fucking reconsider. There is literally one obvious answer in the 2020 presidential election, Biden, even though he ain't great and is prone to make really dumb mistakes and gaffes and whatever. He's also an old guy that has a lot of history, but hell, he's doing better. People change, every now and again, so it's possible, even when they're old. But you know, once he's in office, it's our job to keep his ass accountable.
If you're at all upset over the murder of George Floyd, also know that there are local elections that have greater impact on these kinds of things like police accountability and the general lack of it. Inform yourself. Vote. For the love of fuck, vote.
As for me, I don't generally make too much of a stink about who I am because who the hell am I? Well, I'm a black man. I could be perceived as threatening to any police officer who decides that I look threatening that moment. I could be shot, I could be killed, I could be just fucking dead because. And honestly, I don't feel like becoming a martyr. If you're not black, if you're not a minority (and lord knows there ain't many of us in furry), you won't know the constant low grade fear I have just living my everyday life. Of noticing things, and thinking about why they happen. That woman who got up when I sat across from her on the train: was that because of COVID? Or was that because even with the mask on, I'm still large and black? I don't know. I can't know. And really, I don't want to know.
I'm scared. I'm tired. Please, fucking do something. It doesn't have to be a grand gesture. It just has to be something. I don't want to be scared anymore.
Sorry I haven't posted anything in a while. Still working on some stories. Hopefully I'll have something before the end of the month.
Stay safe out there.
Also, you should watch this entire video (link), but I cued it up to the last 40 seconds or so.
Edit: cleaned some wording up. Also, if nothing else, watch this entire video. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sb9_qGOa9Go

A very reasonable take, especially your emphasis on the importance of (1) local elections and (2) voting Biden.

I would say that this election is the most critical of my lifetime, certainly. Biden might not be perfect, but as I've said numerous times before, I'm less concerned with what Biden did thirty years ago than with what Trump did thirty minutes ago. And one must also realize that Biden has changed over the years, while Trump is the exact same guy who got sued for systematically violating the Fair Housing Act and who called for the Central Park Five to be killed.
