Instead of reappearing 7 years into the future near Neptune, the ship's experimental gravity drive transported it back in time by several decades to the year 2020 and inadvertently tore a hole between our reality and the hell dimension it passed through.

Somehow this sounds like an improvement over the dumb shit that's happened this year.
